Final Fantasy XV is a mental game -- we've know that for a while. Square Enix has been adding to it bit by bit since it launched last year, and things are about to get even weirder once this multiplayer expansion finally hits.

The game's official Japanese site now has details on what the multiplayer mode actually is. Basically, you'll make your own custom character and team up with other players to kill monsters and complete missions. To be honest, it sounds much more ambitious than we thought it would.

Up to four players will be able to hunt together, and if you don't feel like playing with other humans, computer controlled characters will back you up. Meanwhile, it looks like some sort of weapon upgrade system will keep you playing as you grind for better gear and level up your character in the process.

The multiplayer expansion, which is apparently called Comrades, will be available as part of the game's season pass, and you'll need an active PlayStation Plus membership in order to play. What's more, Square Enix will be launching a worldwide beta next month from the 3rd August to the 8th August. Again, though, you'll need to have purchased the title's season pass in order to gain access.

What do you make of all this multiplayer madness? Track down a behemoth in the comments section below.

Update: The expansion's English site has gone live. You can find it through here.
