Yuji Horii, designer of the Dragon Quest series, has officially announced that Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will be localised for Western audiences.
In a new video, the veteran developer announces that the game will be translated into five languages, including English. This comes off the back of a PR leak from the beginning of the month which all but confirmed the existence of a Western localisation, but it's still nice to have it officially out there for all to see.
Dragon Quest XI releases for the PlayStation 4 in Japan tomorrow, and while no platforms were announced for the West, it's very safe to assume that PlayStation 4 owners will be able to add this one to their library at some point in 2018.

Glad that's out of the way. Looking forward to it!
Awesome, been looking forward to this.
@Octane Holy hell we were right! The western localisation got announced befkre that alleged Switch version even gets shown!
Interesting that no platforms were announced. Not even in the press release.
I need to finish persona 5 and horizon quickly, also yakuza zero
5 languages is big for DQ! Not really looking forward to the title myself but good to see such an important series get some love in the West
@ShogunRok Well its 2018 right? Just PS4 then. 3DS will be ancient by then and even Japan has seen nothing of this mythical Switch version.
EFF YEAH! Finally! Awesome news to start my day (of surfing the internet; I've been up doing work before now)
I can't wait for this . DQ8 was my first game in the series I played and was completely blown away . One of the greatest PS2 games for sure.
@BLP_Software Hmm.. I don't recall that I ever said something like that. I've browsed through my posts, but I couldn't find anything either. What was the speculated reason behind this again?
@Octane It was with someone here, but basically joking whst will happen first: the localisation or the Switch version is real?
@BLP_Software Just so you know, I have a mind like a sieve, don't even ask me what I had for dinner yesterday.
I think SE already ''un''officially confirmed the Switch version, right? I think it will come eventually. But probably after the 3DS and PS4 versions are localised and released in the west.
I can already see those damn Metal Slimes fleeing. Gimme dat exp!
Soooooooo.... they announced a game was coming to the west we all knew was coming to the west? Well I know I'll sleep much easier tonight.
If DQX comes west, I'll take that as a big deal, or a date for DQXI, but this is about as non-announcement as you can get. And why the hold-up anyway? How many games get multiple languages at releases these days? Maybe not day 1, but we should have at least a western time frame by now.
Oh well, later the better I guess, gives me time for NNK2 and XC2, which is supposed to be in 2017 but it's currently in hiding.
Very nice! Dragon Quest has been bit of a hit and miss series for me, but I'm still very much looking forward to this.
@Octane The game has been confirmed repeatedly even at the Switch reveal.
Only for Square to say they cant mention it for adult reasons.
Early 2018 already has MHW and Ni no Kuni 2 so it would be great if the English version gets released this year.
Edit: Looks like it'll only be out in 2018 unfortunately.
I'll have to but i can't wait.
@BLP_Software Adult reasons as in ''Nomura got drunk and accidentally deleted all the Switch code.''?
I grew up waiting months and even years waiting for JRPGs to come west. No more! I'm not paying full price for an old game. I'm glad it's coming west for everyone looking forward to it. But I've got too much to play as it is...who knows, maybe I'll pick it up on sale in a few years.
This will be mine before or after ni no kuni I wonder!
@Octane All they said was adult reasons
2018 is shaping up to be another great year for games.
Exciting. I'm looking forward to playing this.
Yesssss!!! Bring on the cute slime
First Ni no Kuni 2 and then Dragon Quest XI. 2018 looking really good for RPGs.
