Belgium. The Soviet Union. Germany. Call of Duty: WWII is aiming to portray the theatre of war that was World War II, and its latest gameplay trailer accomplishes just that by showing us the myriad battlefields we'll traverse through all the carnage with devastated cities, muddy trenches, and snowy forests. While this seems a minor detail to point out, the title is doubling down on the horrors of combat by returning gore to the series, which hasn't been seen since Call of Duty: World at War. Sniper rifles, shotguns, hefty machine guns, and flamethrowers are all here to equip, and you'l notice that, like Battlefield 1, trench shovels and bayonet charges will be part of the gameplay as well.
That signature Call of Duty formula is still intact with this demonstration, but it certainly is a massive leap from titles as complex as Black Ops III. Are you going to parachute into WW2 or sit out of this fight? Grab your flamethrowers and heat up the comments section to let us know.

Battlefield 1?? Campaign??? Looks like a big step back in some ways...
I can't wait for this game probably my most hyped game this year.
@BAMozzy: I expected that you wouldn't be excited for this year's CoD especially from our previous conversations.
Nope, not this time. Graphics seem more focused on filling the screen with dynamic explosive action. Seems the opposite approach to HZD and even Spider-Man. Does is have to be one or the other?
This is the most interested I've been in a Call of Duty game for a while, really hope it turns out well
@Tasuki The brutality of it looks great - like World at War - with bits flying everywhere but it also looked far too busy.
If we didn't know it was Multi-player, you could be forgiven for thinking it was the campaign. Parachuting in, shooting down aeroplanes with them crashing down, escorting tanks etc. Its what you would expect from the 'action sequences' of Campaign trailer not the MP...
Some parts looked like they were trying to do BF1 - gas masks, trench warfare, bayoneting, using a shovel as a melee weapon - all 'highlights' at Dices MP reveal for that game.
The combat itself also looked 'ok' though but I hate shotgun users and that had quite a bit of Shotgun action. At least the Sniper - sniped - not 360 quick scoped which is what you expect to see when actually playing...
For me, it looked like I had seen and played it before which is why I feel it was a step back. CoD has done 'Dunkirk' before too and whilst the campaign trailer looked 'good' visually, it also looked 'familiar'. I know some may not have played a WW2 shooter before and being 'older', I am of the generation that grew up with relatives that survived the atrocities and saw the impact it had on them, that also had 'missing' relatives because of the war. It was my 'Grandfathers' generation where as most kids today, it would be their 'great- or great-great-grandfather' - generations they never knew. I do have my own 'issues' about making an 'arcade' and 'fun' shooter against that backdrop as a result. I would have preferred an 'alternative' history setting, if they 'had' to do an historical warfare game.
Lol why are us gamers so fickle?! One minute we get sick of the modern/future setting. Then we get all excited for a historical setting... Then we get all fussy over too much over use of historical settings! I remember as a kid games were just that... games! Fun, exploration and a time killer. Looking forward to this one... can't wait to see what angle the devs will approach from. I'm one of those gamers who love blockbuster set pieces! and appreciate the little Indies too.
I've been waiting for cod to back to the WW2 and this looks brilliant, can't wait.
