Project Rap Rabbit is not a smartphone title as some feared – it’s coming to the PlayStation 4. But! There is a caveat: the game needs funding via Kickstarter – and, to be brutally honest, it needs a helluva lot of funding. The rhythm release has a goal of £855,000, so approximately $1.1 million based on current exchange rates.

For those that missed the original announcement, though, this sounds super cool: it’s being developed as a collaboration between NanaOn-Sha and iNiS – the creators of PaRappa the Rapper and Gitaroo Man respectively. And it’s got some art style, fusing anthropomorphised animals in feudal Japan with futuristic tech.

The game’s actually trying to evolve the rhythm genre, giving you routes you can take through songs, so you’re not restricted to the linear lyrics of traditional titles. This essentially means that you’ll be able to spit fire with your own rebuttals and one-liners, shaping the message and vibe of the song as you beat match your way through.

The release has 35 days to reach its enormous target, and is already well on its way. Kickstarter rewards include a physical copy of the game for the PS4, as well as various other tiers including bonuses like an artbook, soundtrack, and keyring. Stretch goals include additional formats and a multiplayer mode, but honestly, we can't see it reaching any of them.

Nevertheless, this author has already backed the title like a sheep. Will you be tossing some paper in the direction of this project? Rhyme in time to the music in the comments section below.
