Final Fantasy XV has a new patch out on PlayStation 4 which brings some rather interesting alterations to the table. One of the update's most notable changes is that it buffs the Ring of the Lucii - a special weapon that Noctis obtains during the main story - to the point where it now has a chance to kill the game's most tedious boss in a single shot.
As evidenced by the video that we've embedded above (thanks YouTube user Hayroh's Legacy [JP]), the Adamantoise can now be taken down in a matter of seconds - as long as the ring's instant kill effect activates. Previously, the optional boss' obnoxiously large health bar meant that some players had to spend upwards of an hour chipping it all the way down to zero.
Will you be trying this technique? Thank Square Enix in the comments section below.

the trophy should only unlock if you don't use this to kill him though, kind of unfair to all of us who slogged for hours fighting this guy (i was level 45 when i did it plus as you can do it as many times as you like,you can still get the trophy at a later date)
@FullbringIchigo Exactly. Makes the trophy feel meaningless now.
Can't believe I spent 90 minutes on this.
Lol! After beating the game in mid-January; last week I finally decided to dedicate the time to get plat by grinding out fishing levels and defeating the Adamantoise (2 hours). Just my luck!
@get2sammyb
Rofl, yeah FFXV's great, what a joke that's 2017 gaming for ya folk's, casual.
Well I'll have to try this now. I think I started battling this guy once just to see how big he was but immediately ran away. I always did like all of the ring special effects. Never very useful, I never even bothered to equip it again after 13, but yeah, I'll give it a try.
@Deadlyblack precisely it makes it worthless
at least i have the satisfaction in knowing i EARNED mine
Looking at the video he's maxed out at Lvl120, do you have to have to be fully leveled to get that to work or will it do it at 99?
Also if you use the ring before the update does it do anything?
Yes. Last time I tried it, it glitched out after over an hour. He was only a few minutes from dead when I magically warped out of the zone. Yes. Yes I will use this 'exploit' the MINUTE I get home.
This reminds me of how in WoW I could take my level 100 toon to Stratholme and run through one shotting everything. When the game started, it was a two hour raid. Now it's a 2 minute farm run.
Oh, I need to get this ring. I haven't played FFXV since the Moogle Carnival event, so what exactly did that guy in video do to instant kill Adamantoise?
That looks a bit ridiculous, I'm assuming it has a low percentage chance of occurring? I feel bad for anybody who spent hours labouring away at it having to see that people can just totally cheese the fight now. When I get around the fighting the ol' tortoise I'll have to resist the urge to go full baby mode and use the ring.
@WanderingBullet You get the ring by naturally playing through the story, it works like any other weapon in the game more or less.
@Orpheus79V Cool, thanks.
@xMEADx I know, i played WoW from vanilla all the way up to warlords, i did all the OG raids and all that. Obviously Square doesn't have a 10 year plan for this game so they're making things easier for some, which i tend to disagree with doing this early. That would be like running Stratholme in vanilla and one shotting haha.
.......2 hours. But it felt sooo good to get that trophy and platnium the game. I don't need no lucii wussii.
It took me almost 2 hours to kill it..using the ring should give a cheese trophy
2 hours for me too. But it was one hell of a ride! Was not as hard as many would think. Just cumbersome.
Cheap so no more challenge...
@RedMageLanakyn Ahh ok nice, Vanilla WoW was like the pinnicle of gaming for me nothing can beat that time or era. Game's just seem to lack that Ooomph these day's, stuff like this doesn't help the difficult stuff in FFXV was already optional which is another one of my pet hate's, it's that exact reason I wouldn't rate DS3.
This boss sucks. It was super annoying because it wasn't particularly dangerous, it just had a lot of health, so all you were doing was watching your party hit the thing over and over again for an hour and a half.
100% Vanille approved. XD I would probably try it, since cherry-tapping the same boss for an hour and making the characters last through it all can be tedious indeed. Not to mention demotivating from attempt streaks if you go down late in the battle and have to peck your way back through from square one.
@xMEADx Wildstar was looking good to be a vanilla WoW clone for awhile, but they focused way too much on the things that made it tedious (faction and rep grinding) and not enough on making challenging, fun raids.
This one hit kill thing is what most gaming culture is based on today; instant gratification. Gimme it now and gimme it fast. It has it's place in certain genres, but it seems to be infecting everything now.
Done. It still took about 15 minutes for the ring to finally insta-kill it (at which point it was nearly half HP anyways).
@RedMageLanakyn 100% agreed.
This update (regarding one-shot turtle kill) is ridiculous!!!
FF stands for these kind of bosses. Some are easy, some kinda difficult, some ridiculous (very hard to put decent dmg in, or way too much HP). I wouldn't want to have it any other way. It's purposely designed that way, it's a challenge.
This game has been way to easy. I adored Ultima Weapon from FFVIII. Same applies to Yiazmat from FFXII!
I finally encountered a boss that takes more than 3mins to beat. It was wonderful. It really is stupid they made it possible to one-shot a wonderful boss!!
I literally just killed it with the ring when I saw this.
@Aexurion I would agree if the fight had any meaning at all. It's literally a button masher for 45-60 minutes.... that is NOT good content. That is borderline filler content to keep people busy for a while. It takes no skill so I wouldn't call it a challenge, it's a trophy tax you pay with time. 3 minutes or not, every single other boss in the game is more challenging/rewarding than this stupid turtle.
@NathanUC I understand your reasoning but I disagree.
This boss doesn't have to have any meaning or be good content. It's not like you need to do this boss to progress with the story. And rushing through the story to find this boss and haven't levelled enough or didn't gather better gear to speed things up can make it a challenge. When you prep enough I can be done fairly quickly. The choice is yours (read: players)!
I'm ok with filler content, I paid full price for the game and am happy with what I got. And let's be honest here, the whole game is filler content. Everything in this game was very easy and no skill was needed to get the plat.
Elemancy, Summons and lack of difficulty were 3 things I didn't like about FFXV, Adamantoise was perfectly fine.
@Aexurion I guess I can't understand how you'd enjoy the stupid turtle but not the rest of the game. It doesn't even really attack back... you just keep smashing triangle for an hour to get your 50k gil and trophy. At least story bosses had simple mechanics, msuic, cut scenes, and actual meaning. Even if they didn't have difficulty, they had everything else going for them.
I wouldn't say I dislike the Adamatnoise, but he was completely meaningless minus the trophy. If he were required for the actual story, it would be outrage across the internet. Since he's optional/meaningless, I don't get why anyone would be upset that you can now instantly kill the pointless/meaningless turtle.
@NathanUC But I did enjoy the game, a lot really. Elemancy stayed unused cuz it was too much of a hassle to use magic, compared to previous FFs. And summons were great in general, I just didn't like the randomness of it.
And upset isn't the right word, it's just nonsense they released an update which makes this boss one-shotable.
It's hard to understand why people dislike mashing buttons for an hour on this turtle while the whole game practically let's you mash buttons for dozens of hours with some cutscenes in between.
