Assassin's Creed Empires PS4 PlayStation 4 2

Outside of a remastered compilation, Assassin's Creed remained in the Animus last year, giving Ubisoft a little more time to bring the brand back with a bang after a bit of oversaturation in the years prior. And 2017 will supposedly see the release of Empires, an Egyptian outing that promises to restore the series' reputation.

Following a few leaks last year, a new screenshot appears to have spilled online. This first popped up on Reddit, and while it isn't conclusive, it definitely shows an Egyptian-esque warrior with an Assassin branded shield on his back, sandals, and a sword. We'd probably have preferred a female protagonist for this one, but we understand that ladies are difficult to animate.

Anyway, we're hyped for this. Egypt has been an underserved setting in video games, and there's great potential for a vast desert map populated with pyramids, temples, and much more. Secretly shivving pharaohs while they gorge on wine and grapes is going to be glorious; we'd expect this one to be announced in the run-up to E3 2017.
