Destiny will be getting a "full sequel" in 2017, Activision has confirmed in its latest financials report. If you've been keeping up with Bungie's shooter over the last few months, though, this should come as little surprise; the developer previously revealed that a new game is in the works, and there have been quite a few leaks regarding Destiny 2. Still, written proof never hurts.

According to the report, the publisher aims to "broaden the franchise's global reach, which along with follow-on content plans, sets the stage for growth". In other words, Activision's looking to capture a bigger audience with the sequel, which we can certainly see it doing if the game shows real promise.

So, what does a "full sequel" mean, exactly? Well, it's difficult to read into just two words, but what's been clear for a while is that this won't just be some sort of large expansion. In fact, leaks have suggested that it'll have very little do with the first game at all - it even sounds like existing Guardians won't carry over to the next instalment. Some players will be p*ssed, but it makes sense.

From our point of view, Destiny 2 is primed to build upon everything that the first game got right. Bungie's now got several years of experience under its belt with this sort of project, and we're confident that we'll see the benefits in this upcoming sequel. What's more, Destiny 2 obviously won't be held back by last-gen hardware, which the original Destiny dropped support for last year.
