It's now officially the weekend - hooray - which that means Nioh's 'Last Chance Trial' can now be accessed on PlayStation 4. Only playable until tomorrow, said trial was made available to download earlier this week so that interested players could make sure it was ready to go.
Still, even if you've been slow off the mark, the file only weighs in at around 10GB, so it shouldn't take too long to pull it down from the network. Completing the demo grants you access to special rewards that can be used in the full release, which is launching in just a few weeks on the 9th February.
Have you tried the trial yet? Will you be buying Nioh next month? Bloody your blade in the comments section below.

This might just be the perfect game! Challenging, very technical gameplay combined with actual loot upgrades (Which DS doesn't have) and an actual plot (which DS doesn't have), and an awesome setting, plus minor historical significance (meaning you'll learn a little about history while playing). I hope the real game lives up.
(And the Kodama are cute as all get out)
11/10.
@Mega-Gazz Have you been playing the new demo?
@get2sammyb ya, stayed up to 2am playing since it opened at 11pm.
The demo was great. Muneshige kicked my ass so bad.
@Athrum I remember him. Check out this thread, and queue Benny Hill music: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/181161-nioh/74221715
I doubt I'll finish the demo since I'm new to this kind of games, and despite the tutorial I still have trouble even with the earliest level 1 "ghost fights". But the trailers were interesting, so I'm using this chance to try the game even if I probably won't get it soon. There's one PS4 game I plan to buy [in the vicinity of] day one so far, and its release date is still a mystery - if it lands in autumn, my wallet might be facing it together with Skyrim Switch. @.@
But regardless of when I get to buy Nioh, I think I eventually will. It's on my radar.
@nhSnork which game? I'm curious. Horizon is going to be day one even if just because it'll be my Valentine's Day present.
Is there a normal (not timed) demo I can try? Not getting 10GB in less than a day, even if I wanted.
It looked and played awesome, although I admit the X replacing O for dodging did confuse me a little.
Still, 20 times better than the clunky mess Rise of the Fallen was, and just as good as any DS game.
@nhSnork If it helps, I died to the first guy because I had forgotten how to play - and since there were lots of "bloody graves" at the start.... so did other people
Struggling to get to grips with it tbh. Maybe I'm trying to 'dark souls' my way through it. Is there a running attack? Can I keep hold of block and attack or do you have to release block? There seems to be a slight pause between performing attacks after blocking and it's doing my head in. This recharge ki stuff isn't gelling with me and I'm way too into ds3 at the mo to get used to these mechanics. I was great at the tutorial though!!
@CFDennett You can't just hold block down, since stamina is so important. The combat is MUCH more technical than DS3. I suggest using the bloody graves to practice.
@Mega-Gazz
Yeah that's what was messing me up, the stamina thing. Obviously this ki thing is a big deal!!
Okay 'hit x to retry'..
Just got done playing for 6 hours. I like it. Took a little bit to "get it", but I did. That Lady Boss was pretty hard, beat her in more than 20 try's, but less than 50 I think. Than next mission Im fighting a samurai, and lost a couple times, so turned it off for now.
Pretty brutal but fair and teaches you to play the game in the right way and manage your Ki. The ogress the final boss is pretty hard that damn jump is so hard to dodge beat her on my 11th attempt. The samurai you can duel after you have beat the game and the twilight zone are even harder. Game is great and the demo convinced me to get it day one. Bloobourne meets Onimusha.
From what I played it seems solid, but it takes a level of technical skill I didn't get with Bloodborne until my third NG+ run.
I can't get good fast enough. I didn't rage, I just lost hope.
@Mega-Gazz yeah, turned out they're sort of asynchronous PvP battles. XD And very tough. But I frequently have my posterior handed to me by regular encounters as well. Lone encounters, too - I don't even dare engage multiple enemies at once often. So in almost two days my progress has been "run a distance, fight, die or win with maybe 10% health left, go back to the shrine... and lather, rinse, repeat since interacting with the shrine not only saves the game and refills the gauges but respawns theencounters as well". :^P I'm sure I can get the hang of it eventually, but that would take me longer than the two days they give to complete the demo. Still, I did find the overall experience fun, and the difficulty makes successful battles feel satisfying way before it can frustrate you into an "I can't believe it's finally over, I don't think I even want to remember this headache later on" kind of mood.
@ztpayne7 Final Fantasy XII - that's the version I'll finally be able to play since I never had a PS2. Too bad they're pumping so much visual wow into the project that it's missing out on a Vita release despite WoFF getting one just recently, but at least it's something.
Horizon is absolutely on my wishlist since last E3; the setting and lore alone hooked me instantly. But my finances don't look like they'll work well with the current editions' preorder prices (and later this spring, again, they'll be on standby for some Switch content). Pity, too - a digital artbook for such a game sounds like a bargain; but here's hoping it'll be sold again in a season pass or something.
@nhSnork gotcha. I planned on getting the switch at launch with Zelda but my finances changed a bit. I was going to sell my Wii U for it but I had to use that money for something else.
tldr of my brief experience: decent game, but the demo saved me 60usd
Enjoyed the last chance demo and the social nature of the co-op elements. It's almost like some people grind, get through the level and then allow themselves to be summoned to help weaker players through the game, who then themselves return the favour to the next draft of weaker players. The loot element also helps replayability. My only negative is that the environments are a little bland at the moment.
I think was a very good demo and KI management is very important, KI is basically your stamina and unlike DS you can get some back after every attack or combo. When attacking an enemy you'll notice this blue stuff around your body, when you see the maximum amount of this blue stuff around your body hit R1 which gives you some stamina back aka KI. Loooking forwards to the new game.
I didn't get round to trying the demo, d'oh!
