PS4 PlayStation 4 Final Fantasy XV 15 Hardware Bundle 1

Final Fantasy may not be the juggernaut that it once was, but it's still comfortably one of the most iconic franchises in PlayStation's stable. And after a brief dalliance with Microsoft around the launch of Final Fantasy XIII, it's nice to see the series back where it belongs – firmly under the PlayStation 4's umbrella.

It's no surprise that Sony appears to be the chief marketing partner for Final Fantasy XV, then, with the platform holder announcing a Limited Edition console bundle at the Tokyo Game Show today. But it's now been revealed that the special PS4 Slim console will also be available in North America and Europe – though it will cost you a pretty penny.

The package includes the 1TB moon-themed machine, a copy of Final Fantasy XV in a steelbook, the Kingslaive: Final Fantasy XV Blu-ray, and a bunch of add-on content. But here's the catch: it'll cost you $449.99 in the United States, which is more than a PlayStation 4 Pro. Granted, it does come with the game and movie, but that seems pretty steep.

The other downside is that it's a GameStop exclusive, so you'll need to brave your local store if you want to snag one. There doesn't appear to be any such restrictions on the European bundle, though Sony's yet to announce a price. It will be offering a simpler bundle in the Old World, too, without the custom hardware and Blu-ray.

It's just a bit odd that this will be made available after the PS4 Pro has released; we have to imagine that those in the market for a custom console will be looking for the high-end hardware. Then again, we suppose that this bundle would cost $549.99 if it included Sony's top-end system, which is scarily close to that frightening $599.99 figure.
