Kick off

The athletics is finally underway at Rio 2016, and despite an unoccupied stadium, we're really looking forward to seeing some medals being won on the track. Sticking with the sport, the Premier League season also gets underway this weekend. Not an enormous amount of time for video games, then – but here's what we're playing all the same.

After my No Man's Sky live stream earlier this week, I've developed quite the taste for blasting alien life forms to pieces. Therefore, this weekend will be spent roleplaying a planet hopping jackass, who names newly discovered creatures – such as the Steroid Weasel – before exterminating them. I just hope those killjoy Sentinels don't interfere with my genocidal roadshow.

I'll be spending some time with No Man's Sky as I continue giving it a shot. It's a game that I love. I just wish I also loved to play it. I'm also going to probably play some Rainbow Six: Siege as I play that just about every day. And I should probably get back to my Persona 4 Golden playthrough after being sidetracked from it.

I'm exploring space this weekend in No Man's Sky. Having hit the jackpot with a planet filled with tunnels of gold, I'm making a rapid ascent towards the larger ships.

I'm way behind on my Platinum Trophy challenge, so this weekend I'm hoping to boost my numbers by finally completing Until Dawn, and then moving onto The LEGO Movie.

I've been itching for a bit of challenge in my games lately, so besides the usual Overwatch, I'm going to pile on the difficulty with Bloodborne's The Old Hunters on NG+ (lord, help me) and mixing that up with some Hyper Light Drifter, which I bought on an impulse due to its irresistibly charming visuals and music. Can't wait to dig into them both!

It's No Man's Sky all weekend for me – and actually all week too as we're taking it to an exhibition "for work" where people can come and play for 10 mins taking the exploration further – on our beautiful 65-inch screen. It's going to be tough (actually if your name is Sammy B it really might not sound that tempting) but I'm stoked for it as I have just bought a new spaceship that looks a lot like Boba Fett's Slave 1.

With the Star Wars: Rogue One trailer dropping on Friday, I'll be going back to Star Wars Battlefront 2 this weekend – I like that game, if you haven't already guessed. I'll also be getting stuck into The Witcher 3, which I should finish in approximately seven years.

It's been a packed week of gaming for me, with No Man's Sky occupying most of my time. Now that the review is done and dusted, I'm diving right back in at my own pace, soaking up all the sights and sounds of this weird and wonderful universe. I might be playing this one for a while.

Still not too much gaming for me due to the Olympics, so I thought now is a good time to tackle my backlog, starting with Borderlands 2.

Right, then – what are you playing this weekend? You know the drill by now – let us know in the comments section below.
