Shadow of the Colossus is comfortably one of the greatest games ever made, and its influence is clear to see in Prey for the Gods – an upcoming survival action game set in an icy island environment. The title, which is being created by just three people, launched its Kickstarter campaign this week – with a $300,000 goal for the PC version and $600,000 target for the PlayStation 4.

Don't worry, though, this isn't one of those campaigns that consists of an idea and very little else – the title has been in production since 2014 part-time. At the start of the year, director Brian Parnell and team quit their jobs and invested their savings into getting the core gameplay loop completed full-time – and now they need crowd funding to cross the finish line.

The final game will launch with five bosses, so the studio's not biting off more than it can chew – though it is promising DLC battles if it can reach some rather exorbitant Stretch Goals. The core campaign, though, will feature a vast world, a dynamic day/night cycle, and even a loot system. And, of course, there'll be those conflicts against giant creatures.

It sounds pretty decent, but there's a long way to go for the console versions to get funded; at the time of typing the title has amassed just under $150,000, though it does have almost three weeks to make the rest. Funding just $25 will get you a copy of the game on your system of choice, with more expensive variants available.
