Haha, we absolutely love this. Appearing at the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, Hideo Kojima revealed the "logo movie" for his new studio Kojima Productions, which will presumably be displayed when you boot up Death Stranding. The clip β embedded below β is just about as ostentatious as you can possibly imagine, with mascot Ludens walking across a sea bed, before teleporting (?) to a different planet, and being pestered by a giant water whale.
Kojima said during a panel that his team started working on this after E3 2016, and that it's supposed to communicate the idea of "fun" and "play". It's just looks really self-indulgent to us β and that's why we adore it.

I love Kojima. He really does not leave a stone unturned when it comes to his work. Including logos. Everything is so fleshed out. It's fascinating really.
@stevie85 Yeah, he's an incredibly creative guy. Deserves every bit of acclaim that he gets.
I've played through his...ahem...games. while R vengeance felt like Bayonetta light to me and the less we talk about the movie that is Mgs 4 the better I kept getting one theme from him, apart from the fact he likes movies and stupid plot twists.
America is bad Kojima. We get it.
That pretty darn cool. Also I read somewhere that the clip from E3 would be in the game. How great would it be if that was the ending of Death Stranding ? He did say say that the game was not really linear or open world but would feel comparable...so heck lets just give away the end.
I really think he needs executives reigning him in, and without it I fear his next release will just go wildly off the rails. I mean, I'm not sure how an astronaut-ish guy with a skull face summoning a whale made of water to crash on....the moon (?) is "fun" and "play". He should be forced to sit down with LBP to remember what "fun" and "play" mean.
Yeah, getting people hyped on absolutely nothing thus far (it may be similar to what a FF remake, Crash Trilogy Remake and Shenmue III achieved). Kojima lost his way a long time ago, granted that may have to do with being attached to nothing but MGS, however that Death Stranding trailer....
@BLPs
You should play The Phantom Pain, it's basically what every "movie" complainer wanted: A game that defies all standards and just becomes a non-MGS game in the process.
@Punished_Boss_84 that Norman Foetus trailer bugged me. It's like okay...cool... how far up your ass are you sir? Trying to sell a game here.
As for the movie and action figures...inafune calleD he wants his tactics back.
@Bliquid MGS1 was cold war follow on goodness and was still defined enough to be enjoyable. MGS2...God the talk of data control free speech and god knows what other very heavy stuff like mind control and betrayals...that game is just hard to follow really. I'm glad they lightened up.
MGS3 is probably my favourite of the first 4. Simple and to the point...for Kojima. Granted it still had the US doing dodgy stuff and a heavy ending but it felt more MGS than the conspiracy fest of 2. 4 was just weird. NANOMACHINES? I haven't played 5, don't plan to. I've heard despitems being more of a game, the second half of it drags.
Rising was fun. Didn't dig the whole soundtrack, really though some of it was generic while others like Red Sun stook out to me. Peace Walker is a fun time. Different for the series but by the time you fight a girl in her Underwear...
I'm a firm believer the series isn't easy to get into if you don't dig story games. And all this was on recommendation from a guy who claims to understand Kingdom Hearts. Now I admit not every game is easy to get into. I can get into Xenoblade but no one else I know can, but they can all get MGS. It's simply not for me and i think part of that is while the games are revolutionary, Kojima seems to do so much it detracts from the experience appealing to as wide an audience as possible. Even Xenoblade and many j games have this issue. Whether it was Kojima or Konami I don't know but given Rising was far more understandable and easy to grasp as a plot despite Kojima not being anywhere near it as you said, I expect it was his story that clouds the experience for me.
I for one think it is great. In a world of sequels and endless remakes we need people like Kojima, willing to exercise their creativity and make something completely new. Do you really want another watered down, third person shooter? Let the man work.
@Mega-Gazz It's the logo for his company, nothing to do with the game.
@Bliquid Actually, he stepped in on revengeance and helped (delayed) the game because he didn't like how it was turning out. Wasn't edgy or B movie enough for him.
"self indulgent" isn't that what auteurs usually do?
6+ months after leaving konami, he makes a trailer and a logo movie. Enjoy the wait, folks. This veteran Hollywood director wannabe will string you along for the next 4 years and deliver a mediocre game.
@Napples 6 months really isn't bad going to set up a new development company, settle on the idea for a game and gain funding and create a decent trailer...so, yeah. Seems like they are cracking on with it to be fair.
He kind of reminds me of George Lucas. Revolutionary at first then becomes self- indulgent and forgets what made his early work great. I really hope his new game doesn't turn out like the prequels or kingdom of the crystal skull.
everything is awesome !!! (oops, sorry misread the title!)
Cannot wait for DS, that logo is smart i hope the graphics are like that in-game.
If I was Sony, I would be like, hmm so how much of the games budget did you spend on that logo video?
Only kidding, looks ace but I have a feeling this game will end up next gen before we play it.
@GoatWrench
Yes, and the Wachowskis. You can see how an idea gets them labelled as a genius and they lose any kind of checks and balances in their work as people assume they solely are responsible for the quality of a product, rather than as the driving force of a team or committee of the original. The mileage may vary but mostly there are arguably diminishing/increasingly divisive returns slowly (Kojima and Lucas) or quickly (Wachowskis).
This is from someone that likes the work of all three .
