Koei Tecmo's released a new screenshot from its upcoming Berserk adaptation, and our immediate thought upon seeing it was that main character Guts actually looks better here than he does in the new CG anime series of Berserk.

For those out of the loop, a fresh take on Berserk is currently airing, and although there have only been a couple of episodes so far, many long-time fans of the property have been quick to criticise its 3D animation, as opposed to classic 2D drawings. For what it's worth, we don't think the new anime is that bad, but we probably would have preferred a more traditional approach all the same.

And so we return to our original point: the above screenshot shows Guts about to use his mechanical arm cannon while surrounded by trolls - and we reckon that developer Omega Force has nailed the Black Swordsman's appearance, right down to the look on his face. It really does seem to capture the grittiness of the original work better than the ongoing anime.

Berserk - the game's working title - is due out this September in Japan; whether it makes it West this year, we'll have to wait and see. In any case, Koei Tecmo is promising more details later today, so make sure to stay tuned.
