ps4 angle.png

We can hardly believe that we're more than halfway through 2016 already, but at least this year has offered up some good gaming times so far. The likes of Dark Souls III and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End immediately spring to mind, but the latter half of 2016 also promises an abundance of great looking titles, so we've decided to put together a rather large list of 20 upcoming games that are, at the time of writing, still scheduled to launch this year on PlayStation 4. Needless to say, there's just about something for everyone here.

furi ps4 1.png

Furi

Release date: 5th July

A stylish mix of bullet hell and tense melee combat, we've been keeping a close eye on Furi since its moody announcement trailer. Featuring licensed electronic beats from the likes of Carpenter Brut, this is one indie that looks and sounds razor sharp.

i am setsuna ps4.jpg

I Am Setsuna

Release Date: 19th July

Taking us back in time to the simpler days of Japanese role-playing games, I Am Setsuna could well be the breath of fresh air that fans need. A whimsical art style should combine with traditional systems and mechanics to create a charming, lovingly crafted fantasy experience.

the banner saga 2 ps4 top 20.png

The Banner Saga 2

Release Date: 26th July

Although the first game was late to the PS4 party, The Banner Saga 2 looks to be a solid sequel that expands upon what the original did right. Another indie with an attractive art style, this tactical RPG allows you to forge your own stories through a branching narrative and multiple playable characters.

no man's sky art.jpg

No Man's Sky

Release Date: 9th August (NA) 10th August (EU)

Easily one of the most anticipated titles on this list, it feels like we've been waiting forever to get our hands on No Man's Sky. As you no doubt know by this point, the incredibly ambitious space sim is in development at independent studio Hello Games, and we're praying that the tiny developer can deliver.

deus ex mankind divided ps4 top 20.jpg

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Release Date: 23rd August

Adam Jensen's back and he's ready for more augmented action in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - a sequel to 2011's decent Deus Ex: Human Revolution. More options in and out of combat, expanded RPG mechanics, and an intriguing plot concerning robotic limbs are just a few reasons to watch out for this one.

king of fighters xiv ps4 top 20.jpg

The King of Fighters XIV

Release Date: 23rd August (NA) 26th August (EU)

It may look a little drab, but The King of Fighters XIV promises plenty of bang for your buck, featuring a huge playable character roster and a load of different game modes to try your hand at. Going by what we've seen so far, this should be another enjoyable technical brawler from Japanese developer SNK.

god eater 2 rage burst ps4 top 20.jpg

God Eater 2: Rage Burst

Release Date: 30th August

Killing large viscous monsters with ridiculously oversized weapons is never not fun, so we've got high hopes for God Eater 2: Rage Burst and its particular brand of beast slaying. Will Bandai Namco's action RPG have the same impressive impact here in the West that it's always enjoyed in Japan? We're cautiously optimistic.

FINAL FANTASY XV EPISODE DUSCAE_20150320171723.jpg

Final Fantasy XV

Release Date: 30th September

Here it is, the big one. After ten years of waiting, Final Fantasy XV is finally within reach. It often feels like what's left of the franchise's reputation rests on the shoulders of Noctis and the gang, so Hajime Tabata and his team have a heck of a lot to prove with this very pretty open world adventure.

mafia 3 ps4 top 20.png

Mafia III

Release Date: 7th October

Can the Mafia franchise climb the modern open world ladder and stand alongside the likes of Grand Theft Auto? Only time will tell, but we know for a fact that the series has never had a better opportunity to establish itself as one of the genre's heavy hitters.

battlefield 1 ps4 top 20.jpg

Battlefield 1

Release Date: 21st October

Disease filled trenches, mustard gas, and landmines aren't exactly our idea of fun, but we have to admit that Battlefield 1 has made World War One look, y'know, bearable. Historical snark aside, great things are expected of DICE's stunning looking shooter, which is guaranteed to at least provide an impressive spectacle.

tlg perch.jpg

The Last Guardian

Release Date: 25th October

We've been waiting quite a while for this one as well, haven't we? The Last Guardian finally arrives on PS4 later this year after delays, years of silence, and several superb gameplay trailers. Will the successor to Shadow of the Colossus live up to the hype? We can do nothing but place our faith in the cat-bird thing one last time.

world of ff cute.jpg

World of Final Fantasy

Release Date: 25th October (NA) 28th October (EU)

Described as an approachable Final Fantasy title, World of Final Fantasy is something slightly different for the series, mixing cute and colourful visuals with traditional RPG systems like turn based battles. Its presence has no doubt been overshadowed by Final Fantasy XV, but we're looking forward to it all the same.

titanfall 2 ps4 top 20.jpg

Titanfall 2

Release Date: 28th October

Respawn's giant mechs stomp out their territory on PS4 later this year, bringing along a full single player campaign for their second outing. The PlayStation Nation may have missed out on the first game, but Titanfall 2 seems like an improvement in almost every area, and we're more than ready to suit up.

cod infinite warfare ps4 top 20.jpg

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Release Date: 4th November

Okay, so we admit that it does get increasingly difficult to become excited for Call of Duty year after year, but we're prepared to back Infinite Warfare after its impressive E3 2016 showing. Incorporating space battles and a load of anti-gravity madness, this could be the shot in the arm that Activision's blockbuster franchise arguably needs.

dishonored 2 ps4 top 20.jpg

Dishonored 2

Release Date: 11th November

A stealthy stab-'em-up with a branching narrative, Dishonored 2 looks to carry on the success of the first game and spill some blood with expanded gameplay options and even a second playable character. It may not look much different from its predecessor, but why try to fix what isn't broken?

watch dogs 2 ps4 gameplay.jpg

Watch Dogs 2

Release Date: 15th November

Goodbye Aiden Pearce, hello hacker boy with designer glasses. From what we've been shown of Watch Dogs 2, Ubisoft appears to be taking the property in a promisingly positive new direction, opting for more player freedom, a more dynamic sandbox, and a touch more personality. Hacking's hopefully back in style, baby.

gran turismo sport ps4 top 20.jpg

Gran Turismo Sport

Release Date: 15th November (NA) 18th November (EU)

Although it looked more than a little rough before E3 2016, the racer's subsequent showings have done a lot to repair the confidence of petrol heads. Not quite a full sequel, Gran Turismo Sport should still prove to be a love letter to car fanatics the world over - now we just have to hope that Polyphony gets it out on time.

south park ps4 top 20.jpg

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

Release Date: 6th December

Coming back for another helping of hilarity in this RPG sequel, the kids of South Park will once again take to turn based battles and sensationally stupid quests. Obviously one for fans, South Park: The Fractured But Whole looks to expand upon the first game, which was already surprisingly good.

gravity rush 2 ps4 top 20.jpg

Gravity Rush 2

Release Date: TBA 2016

A real open world stunner that Sony decided not to show off at E3 2016, Gravity Rush 2 looks like a bigger and better version of the Vita original, complete with much more detailed environments, refined gameplay, and a whole host of other improvements that'd take a long, long while for us to list here.

sword art online hollow realization ps4 top 20.jpg

Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization

Release Date: TBA 2016

Could this be the Sword Art Online game that PlayStation fans have been waiting for? While past attempts have been decent enough, Hollow Realization seems to be taking everything that its predecessors got right and throwing it into one big, colourful action RPG. Kirito and the gang could be onto a winner here.
