Days Gone PS4 PLayStation 4 1

Days Gone – which we previously expected to be named Dead Don't Ride – surprised us in a good way at E3 2016. We'd anticipated a hammy, heavy metal vibe – but the biker culture that surrounds this post-apocalyptic release actually seems understated and thoughtfully done. But we don't know a whole lot about it at this stage – other than the fact that it looks a lot like The Last of Us.

Well, one feature that developer Sony Bend's been hyping is the title's dynamic weather. "Realistic weather effects, such as rain, wind, snow, and day-night cycles impact the gameplay," the title's official blurb explains. "The game's lighting is all real-time and reacts dynamically, the way the human iris does, as players move from one location to the next."

Obviously the motorcycle plays a big part in the gameplay, and so with the various weather changes, the handling of the chopper will adapt, too. The developer's apparently recorded tons of vehicle samples to get the sounds of the bike right, and as it doubles as your inventory, it's being treated like its own character.

One other thing worthy of note is that the game's a single player experience only – there's no multiplayer at all. Much of the action will centre upon your ability to scavenge for materials and craft, and as resources are limited, you'll need to ensure that you're building the right things. It sounds pretty cool, but there's no date for this right now – the studio's taking its time.
