We feel like we've heard about this before, but now that we've seen it in action, it seems to be far more substantial than we had previously given it credit for. During a presentation of Final Fantasy XV at E3 2016, director Hajime Tabata put the title's optional 'Wait' mode through its paces, and it honestly looks like it could add a whole different dimension to the game.
Basically, Wait mode transforms Final Fantasy XV's combat, turning it into something that's more akin to a traditional turn based system. Crazy, right? When Wait is enabled, you'll be able to temporarily pause time during a fight, survey your surroundings, and decide what your next action will be. According to the presentation, this can make combat a little easier, but it also adds some tactical depth to proceedings.
If you'd like to see Wait mode for yourself, skip to the 54:30 mark in the video that we've embedded. Does it look good to you? Pause time and warp into the comments section below.

Reminds me a bit of Dragon Age Inquisition for some reason
GREAT! Now it is day 1 for me!
Any idea if they have patch this on any of the demos?
This is awesome, I now have zero reservations about gameplay. Previously I thought it would just be spending a lot of time watching my characters getting knocked over. At least with wait mode I won't be able to blame my aged reaction times anymore.
At first I just thought it was a pause button, and I didn't think it was that big of a deal, but then I realized you could control the camera and move around, so everybody else is paused, but you aren't. So it's like Max Payne or Matrix, only everybody else is frozen instead of moving slowly.
I'd probably want to do this for boss battles, though I'm nto really sure what he meant about it popping up automatically when you stop moving the controls. If it kept happening when I didn't want it to that would be very annoying. I'd rather it have an activation button like the old soft reset - Start, Select, and the shoulder buttons. OK, maybe less complicated than that.

In Dragon Age Inquisition it was the touchpad that activated the "tactics menu" aka overhead time freeze view. That would work better I think.
Good for us, older fans of the series. Too bad I can't find the special edition with the movie anywhere.
@JaxonH Don't own a PS4 so the touchpad comeplelty slipped my mind, that would be perfect though, yes.
Wow really redeemed themselves from that garbage onstage titan demo. Alot of my resverations have been put at ease.
Anything is better than that god awful Titan battle demonstration.
Sounds like Transistors battle system
