Those of you with good memories may remember a game called Prey 2, which was announced for the PlayStation 3 back in 2011. A sequel to the original Prey - a first-person sci-fi shooter - Prey 2 was supposedly going to be a pretty big deal; an open world action game in which you played as a bounty hunter, tracking down aliens and dishing out intergalactic justice.
It all sounded rather promising, but it wasn't long before the project went dark and people began to worry that its development wasn't going as planned. As it turned out, people were right to be concerned: in 2014, publisher Bethesda revealed that Prey 2 had been cancelled. The official confirmation didn't exactly come as a surprise, but it was disappointing news all the same.
However, if this most recent rumour is to be believed, then Prey 2 - or at least something like it - may once again be in development. Kotaku's ever informative Jason Schreier claims that, according to what he's heard, Prey 2 is going to be announced at E3 2016. Schreier explains in the publication's comments section: "All I've heard is that they're announcing it at E3! I'm not 100% sure, though. I do know it's codenamed Danielle and under development at Arkane Austin. And this is a totally new Prey 2 (it might even be called something else now), not the one we saw in 2011 from Human Head."

Awesome, I really liked the idea of prey 2 and was gutted when it was cancelled. This e3 is going to be sweet!
That could be good. I really like a bit of sci fi, fantasy games are nice but we get sooo many of those. Witcher 3 and Bloodborne are going to be very difficult to top anyway so it would be nice to see some games that try something a bit different for a change.
Surely they will develope a similar idea under a different name. Prey was alright but it was a 360 launch title is it really worth calling this game prey 2. Do that many people remember prey? Which sounded like a completely un-related title at the time prey 2 was announced.
This sounded so cool when new first broke and it was disappointing when it got cancelled. If Bethesda didn't want it, should have given to Obsidian. Hopefully, it has a similar aesthetic and feel. Who doesn't want to be an intergalactic space bounty hunter?

@viciousarcanum Surely they wouldn't dump it completely. It'll probably still be open world at least, with some assets from the original concept being reused.
I really hope so, I really wanted an open world game like this to come out last gen, but it's more realistic this gen.
Would love to see this happen, but also with the original Prey re-released on the Playstation (I believe it was a 360 exclusive). I'd also like to see them bring the Vampire Night games back and maybe a new Hunter The Reckoning.
Was intrigued by Prey 2 trailer back then, eventhough this is a complete different game, I hope it still feature the same premise.

Prey 2 looked like an interesting concept and a game I was interested in seeing more of. I liked the departure from the original Prey and wondered if that was part of the reason it was cancelled. I must admit I was a little disappointed to hear it wasn't going to get a release so hope this finally gets a chance to be realised.
