Fallout 4's survival mode patch has finally arrived on PlayStation 4. Available to download right now, update version 1.06 weighs in at around 2.4GB, so you may want to get it downloading if you're planning on exploring the Commonwealth this evening.
As hinted, the patch adds the highly anticipated, revamped survival mode to the post-apocalyptic release, which forces you to eat, drink, and sleep to stay alive in the wasteland. It also makes combat more deadly for all combatants, upping the damage output of both you and your opponents, while healing via stimpaks and other items is a more gradual process.
The update also promises to fix a good few bugs, and supposedly improves how the third-person viewpoint behaves in cramped spaces. All in all, it should prove to be a worthwhile patch.
Will you be limping back into Fallout 4 to test your mettle in survival mode? Feel free to scavenge in the comments section below.

Argh! I've only just completed the main questline of the regular game Bethesda! lol I may give this a shot with a new character, though I suspect Dark Souls level frustration lol
Good stuff can't wait, i've not recieved any download yet though and i've been on the game most of the afternoon.
@xMEADx Was live for me, about an hour ago, in London,UK so hopefully you'll have it soon...
I may have to start a new character and see how much it really changes the game
I was waiting for an automatic download but it was available when I checked manually.
Now my favourite part, creating a character (female of course).
@dellyrascal ahh ok thank's, i'm also in the UK but up north (tis grim!!) hopefully get it soon. @ApostateMage Thnx for the info it was there for me also when I checked for update on the game, it's downloading now.
As awesome as this is, I'm just hoping they fix settlements so that the happiness level doesn't take a year and a half to hit 100.
I'm at Abernathy, I've got only the original three settlers. One is assigned to food, one a clinic, one a bar. They've got beds, they've got defense. Happiness peaked at 80 and then started to drop for no apparent reason.
I've heard that people who started a character AFTER the Wasteland Workshop patch aren't having this issue. I don't want to create a new char just for that though.
Bah. Humbug!
For anyone worried about this making the game really frustrating, it wasn't that bad at all in New Vegas. It sounds more restrictive than it is. You can easily end up with dozens and dozens of bottles of water on you and you only need about one a day or so. You're walking around with months worth of supplies on you. You're also never more than an hour or two from even more.
It doesn't so much make it more challenging as much as it makes you think a little bit more. It also gives locations more meaning, like a ruined supermarket now feels like a treasure trove, like it should in that setting, rather than just another room with ghouls in.
I really like the idea behind survival mode, but I absolutely blow at any sort of action games, particularly shooting games. So I doubt I can even get past the molerats you fight at the very beginning of the game. Maybe I will give this a shot with an extremely VATS reliant build at some point when the time is right.
Survival mode is awsome it make's it feel more real. Like when there's a settlement under attack rather than fast traveling there and waiting for the assault you have to run there and hope you make it in time. Last night I saved a few and when you get there the raider's/super mutant's are already laying seige to your settlement and you turn up just in a nick off time and wipe em out from behind it's awsome, make's you feel like a ghero rather than it being all scripted. You also bump into the trader's more whilst traversing the commonweath and discover little area's and building's you never would of found otherwise, i'd recommend it to anyone, I wish I could make game's I would make survival the default setting and drive the casualness out of game's that ruin's them these day's. Awsome stuff.
I can't wait to grab my pip-boy and start having to eat lol
