The gaming market's been relatively quiet in Japan over the last few weeks as far as PlayStation goes, but despite a lack of new, blockbuster software, Sony's latest machine has remained at the top of the hardware charts - and that was the case again last week. The only new PS4 title worth mentioning is Konami's fun looking baseball game, Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2016, which sold through a healthy 101,981 copies on the current-gen system. In turn, PS4 sales actually spiked a little, jumping around 8000 units from the week prior.
Elsewhere, last week saw the release of Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness on PS3. After selling rather poorly on PS4, the delayed action role-playing title entered in sixth place on the last-gen console, shifting a meagre 20,027 copies. Nevertheless, this figure shows that there's still a market for PS3 games in Japan, as crazy as that might seem to us here in the West.

Wow Star Ocean really bombed... I guess I'll put it on hold and play the well received #FE instead. It comes out one week before or something like that...
Why can't we get those vita games here.
I think the market will go the West in the end. The sales are so weird Star Ocean WTF.....
I can't totally explain why Star Ocean flopped in Japan, but it's another good example of why Japanese publishers are more eager to bring their games West. I can almost guarantee you that Star Ocean will do better in North America and Europe than it did in Japan, if only because of how many PS4s have been sold overseas.
Xbox one down 1 in the charts lol, what a flop the Xbox over there is.
@Feena I think #FE also bombed :s
@Xaessya yes, I've checked and you are right. #FE just had a slightly better sell-thru rate but that's it. Also same score on Famitsu (34/40) but critics were generally more positive for #FE. I guess I will still go with that first and play SO5 when the JRPG craziness is over...Valkyria Chronicles and Fire Emblem Fates are gonna be in my mailbox in 14 days and then there's Project Sestsuna, FF15, P5 ;_; not to mention these 2.
@Feena
I'm absolutely stoked for #FE and Star Ocean V. #FE was actually awarded GotY by some JP website. Not a major achievement but, for anyone to consider that game the best they played all year it has to be worth it's salt. And of course, I'm excited for Valkyria Chronicles Remastered too.
You're in for a treat with Fire Emblem Fates. I will say though, despite the foundational premise of its' storyline being far more exciting and dramatic than that of its predecessor FE Awakening, the actual story and characters just didn't seem to draw me in the way the last game in the series did. With that said, it didn't really matter much because every other aspect of the game was utterly perfect. UTTERLY PERFECT. They balanced pairing so incredibly well now, and the new buff/debuff system replacing inventory management adds a whole new layer of strategy I hadn't even considered.
And the maps? Oh my gosh the maps. I played Birthright first and thought the maps were 10x better than that of Awakening. Even the DLC had some of the most amazing maps ever conceived (Beach Brawl truly is the greatest strategic map I've ever played- BUY ALL THE DLC, TRUST ME). But then I played Conquest and lol, oh my goodness, it trumped Birthright's maps in Every. Conceivable. Way.
@JaxonH Beach Brawl is so hard. (T-T )
I've been trying like forever to see Xander in all his sexiness but it's impossible. Argh, why do I suck with strategies?!?
@Utena-mobile
Hahaha well it seems you have a good motivator to keep at it
That map can be brutal though. My first playthrough I made it so far, but apparently made a misstep by not using my items as I went (thought I could pocket them for my main playthrough- so naiive of me). As a result I wasn't strong enough to defeat the boss. Such a crushing defeat.
@JaxonH Really looking forward to Fates, Awakening was amazing no matter what some of the fanbase thinks. I ordered the special edition with all the games. And what you are saying about the maps makes me giddy!
And with #FE let's cross pur fingers. I generally like SMT/Persona more than Star Ocean though so there's that. But I do feel kinda sorry for Square-Enix because they are really trying to get some folks in Japan to buy a home console.
Good number for ps4 and vita. Nice to see the vita bounce back after a few slow weeka.
