Sony and Square Enix are obviously going to be pushing Final Fantasy XV pretty hard as we approach its 30th September release date, but we have a feeling that both companies will be gearing up to go all-out in Japan, where a game of this magnitude could have an impact on the shrinking home console market.
As such, a trailer like the one that we've embedded is all but expected. Playing on nostalgia by piecing together Japanese Final Fantasy adverts of old, it makes for a decent watch if you're a fan of the series. Indeed, we reckon that it's a pretty clever way to market the upcoming release. After all, nostalgia is a powerful tool, and if any series can make use of it, it's Final Fantasy.

Ugh, so much Final Fantasy these days. I'd rather be bombarded with Ratchet & Clank news but why talk about a game that is sure to be great when we can hype up more stuff from a former legendary developer that is nothing more now than a shell of its former self?
@Gamer83 It's just hot at the moment. Don't worry, we'll do lots on Ratchet & Clank in the lead up to launch, too. I can't wait!
@get2sammyb
You guys might, Sony clearly won't.
@Gamer83 It's trending reasonably on Amazon at least, though it's going to have its work cut out against Dark Souls III. Different games for different audiences, though, I suppose.
@Gamer83
@Gamer83 It's a couple days after that huge hullabaloo that Square did for this game. Of course Final Fantasy is going to rule the roost for a little bit. Especially with all the stops they've been pulling with XV. I've said it before, it's more like a cultural event than a standard game release.
Ah nostalgia. Especially IX and XII.
That mage's design @2:48 looks pretty similar to Ramuh from FFXIV. Then again he could very well be Ramuh.

Somehow that trailer made 13 look good. Didn't see any mention of X-2 though.
At the risk Shogun's rage, I was just thinking about R&C an hour ago, hoping once all the FF hysteria dies down a bit in a few days we'd hear some more about it. But I decided I wasn't going to mention it myself. But since everybody else already did, thought I'd join in. 11 more days last time I checked in the US, later in the EU though, closer to the movie I think.
@rjejr At the same risk, I'm thinking the same thing. I've seen the story trailer advertised on Youtube, so I'm seeing some, if miniscule promotion (though it's probably just because of the videos I watch).
Even if the game doesn't get too much in the way of advertisements, I would at least like to see them double down on the movie, as I do think that could be a good win for the series. At the very least it's a game movie that probably won't suck.
But final fantasy xv is an xbox exclusive... Atleast I think it is with all the marketing for it! o.O
Give me 8 and 9 and i will be happy to play the again. Also i will get the Seifer card and find all the ufo's.
@rjejr 13 was absolutely awesome... If you don't mind a linear rpg, with a silly storyline, with no notable villages, side quests or mini games.
I still played it to completion, although its probably the worst ff in my opinion
.
@themcnoisy Hope killed it for me. He has got be one of the worst characters I've ever come across in any vidoegame. He's whinier than Ash Ketchum in Pokemon anime and that boy never shuts up. And the linearity I normally like, but it was too linear for too long. I tried to beat the final boss a few times but never did, I just didn't care about any of them or any of it. Vanille and Sazh I liked, but that's it.
It was nowhere near as bad as FF X-2, or FF:CC:TCB on Wii - that one was barley even a tech demo - but for an FF game I couldn't get into 13.
@DerMeister 4 new short 30 second movie trailers came out yesterday.

Saving the universe takes nuts. And bolts.
@WanderingBullet It is Ramuh, you can actually summon him in Duscae and it's epic.

@finalstan That's awesome! Does it mean that the huge Titan in trailers was a summon as well?
@rjejr I actually quite enjoyed FFXIII. The main problem for me was the story and some of the characters, i.e.: Snow and Vanille.
@WanderingBullet That is possible, we know Noctis will be able to summon more than one (we have Ramuh and we will get Carbuncle), then I think Noctis' gang mentions something about being on a trip to pay a visit to 'his ginormousness', then we have Noctis with the ability to lock on and teleport to enemies - would lend itself nicely to a (huge) eidolon fights, to prove one's worth etc.
@finalstan Yeah, I was wondering that myself after seeing that clip you posted since it seemed like the Titan picked up Noctis the same way Ramuh did. Not to mention, that Carbuncle said something about the Titan being friendly in the Platinum Demo.
This proves that I don't read articles or headlines correctly lol I got so excited when I saw the words "Sony" "final fantasy" "nostalgia" and "cards" while seeing a picture of squall from ff8 haha then got depressed when I realized what the head line actually said lol
