It hasn't been the most eventful week here at Push Square Towers, with the gaming industry clearly too busy butchering the Lords of Cinder to give us some interesting stories to write about. We did get a ton of Dark Souls III content up, though, including our definitive review. Other games that got the review treatment: Ratchet & Clank, Stranger of Sword City, and Stories: The Path of Destinies.

Dark Souls III - 9/10
Dark Souls III is another triumph of the imagination for FromSoftware, a studio which surely now must rank as one of Japan's leading talents. The company's Souls series has a near-flawless track record and after the cult nature of Demon's Souls has thankfully found a large and receptive mainstream audience – not bad for a franchise which delights in being obtuse and hair-pulling tricky in equal measure. Dark Souls III is arguably the most accomplished entry yet, refining the core mechanics and cunningly utilizing next-generation hardware to excellent effect.
Ratchet & Clank - 9/10
Games based on movies have a pretty poor reputation on the quality front, however Ratchet & Clank emanates class in so many aspects that even referring to it as a movie tie-in sells it short. If you've never had the pleasure of enjoying this series' brand of third-person blasting before, then this is the perfect chance to see just why the property has remained popular for over a decade. Meanwhile, if you're already a fan, then this remake is a truly worthy entry in the franchise, and while it doesn't do anything particularly new of note, it's a greatest hits compilation so compelling that you won't want to skip it.

Soapbox: Subtleties of the Souls Series That Make It Special
Who would have guessed that FromSoftware would go on to make a dent on the global game development scene when it dropped Demon's Souls? A seemingly inconspicuous title upon release, it spawned a game formula that has evolved and enthralled more and more with its sophisticated sequels. The games test your resolve with a blend of unbearable frustration and profound jubilation, which few games can achieve effectively. This isn't even mentioning the extensive lore, gorgeous locales, and dark, fantastical art direction.

Here's the Map from Red Dead Redemption's PS4 Sequel
Well. Earlier this week, there was a comical NeoGAF thread in which a poster claimed to have obtained the map from Red Dead Redemption 2. As is ever the case on the prolific message board, drama ensued, and the image was eventually removed. It didn't smell like a fake to us, but given the distinct lack of information, we passed on posting it here.

I just finished Ratchet and Clank and it reminded me why I started playing games in the first place and that's to have fun.
It was a joy to play and plan on going through again.
I have to say that I am really happy I chose to get Ratchet this past Friday. I had never previously played any of the games and I must say it is just pure fun. Just finished the ScraggleBeast boss and wow, the art direction and visuals in this game have really blown me away thus far. It truly does feel like you are playing a pixar movie! Will definitely be playing the challenge mode as soon as I beat it. Really really wish more games would not try to go for the realistic look as much and try and attain the level of graphic fidelity Insomniac has achieved with this game. Can't recommend it enough!
@Majic12 here here, that synopsis is pretty spot on. Art direction is super important.
I haven't played it yet, but I'm really excited for it. So glad to see Ratchet back on song like this.
What a week the last one was. Some cool announcements and highlighted by the releases of what are easily the two best games in 2016 so far. I was laughing out loud at certain points while playing Ratchet & Clank and just having a blast the whole time. I was a little concerned when Sony announced it at E3 2014 almost like it was just a little side note (which given the franchise's history, especially the PS2 entries, it should never be just a side note) but it delivered on all fronts. I hope sales will be good. I want another PS4 R&C. I've been reminded why I loved this series before Sony went spinoff crazy. Finished my first playthrough now doing another one on challenge mode and frankly I can see it being a game I go back to at various points over the years like I have with games such as Super Mario World, Street Fighter 2, Twisted Metal 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando.
