It's been a big few days for Insomniac Games, hasn't it? Not content with the overwhelmingly positive reception that Ratchet & Clank's received, the Burbank-based developer has announced about a bajillion new games – most of them being developed exclusively for the Oculus Rift. But it's all cool, we do have one all-new snippet of information to share with you: Song of the Deep, its Metroidvania-inspired underwater adventure, will launch on 12th July.
You can watch a story trailer for the game below, with a novelization allegedly due in Barnes and Nobles stores soon. It's a strange title to go transmedia with as, some nice artwork aside, we reckon that it looks a bit rubbish, but there you go. If you happen to be intrigued by the smaller-scale project, then you'll be able to pick it up either digitally from the PlayStation Store or physically from GameStop shops on the abovementioned date. We'll obviously have a review, too.

Looks pretty..but like you say..also a bit rubbish lol.Maybe it will turn up on PS Plus at some point..
@Wazeddie22 Better hunker down if it does.
I don't get imsomniac... Those VR games pardon my english look like sh*t...

@Sanquine Y'know not to swear around here, man!
I think Insomniac's moving forward as a mercenary now. They seem to make games for anyone who will foot the bill. I mean, it's fine, if that's what they want to do... But I doubt they're going to have as consistent output as they did through the PSone, PS2, and (parts of the) PS3 era moving forwards.
Song of the Deep looks like a stinker to me, but maybe they'll prove me wrong. The VR games have some interesting ideas, but Feral Rites has one of the worst art directions I've seen come out of Insomniac in a LONG time.
I don't get why Insomniac made this, looks like Ubi made a Child of Light sequel on the Rayman engine. Though that's partly influenced by the horrendous mix of ladylike RPG voice over and an action game that would be better served with some classical music or Star Wars or something. Whatever Bugs Bunny sang "kill the rabbit" too, maybe Wagner. I like the Galadriel voice, but it doesn't fit at all.
Just seems like Insomniac could be doing something better with its time. Like a good Sunset Overdrive sequel to release on PS4 alongside Titan fall 2.
@Sanquine My thoughts exactly.Despite all the hype for VR I'm still not convinced.Still not seen a game that doesnt feel you would spend 10 minutes on at a time.
Just push this stuff out and get started on the next Ratchet & Clank game, I'm back on board with that series after the brilliant remake.
@rjejr
I'm not really sure what Insomniac is going for here either. And not that a bigger developer can't make a great smaller game (Child of Light is great from everything I've heard from people who played it) but Insomniac doesn't strike me as a developer that is suited to this kind of game. Its strength is bigger-budget productions like R&C, Resistance and Sunset Overdrive. I still think something happened between Sony and Insomniac and it's a shame because in addition to another mainline R&C for PS4, I'd love an Insomniac-made Resistance 4.
Looks a bit rubbish indeed! Nah, honestly it looks fine, but this is a game that you'd expect from a small scale indie studio. Not sure why Insomniac is bothering with something like this. I'm pretty sure they are very well capable of turning this into something.. better?
