Another day, another milestone. This time, the PlayStation 4 has apparently surpassed three million units in the UK. The news comes courtesy of British trade magazine MCV, who cite UK retailers quoting GfK figures. Apparently, the platform surpassed the noteworthy install base sum all the way back in January, so it should be well above the figure by now.
The system hit the two million units milestone in the UK back in May 2015, which represented its 18th or so month on the market. That means that sales are actually speeding up rather than slowing down, which is crazy when you consider just how fast the PS4 flew out of the gate. The latest numbers accompany news of some personnel changes at SCEUK, too.
"With PlayStation VR launching, the strongest first-party line-up since the PS4 launched, and our third-party exclusives better than ever, the team is in a great position to make 2016 the most successful year in PlayStation history," said incoming marketing director Richard Keen. Safe to say he's excited about his new position, no?

This announcement would have been a lot funnier if they made it about an hour before or after the U4 delay.
I'm not sure how they are measuring that metric - revenue is more likely than meta critic score - but if VR takes off and PS4 keeps selling and some games actually release this year - U4, FFXV, TLG, Dreams (I'm still excited for it) - then it could indeed be a very big year. KH3, Shemue and FF7 are probably not releasing this year, but if we got some firm news on them, like dates for next year, PS4 could be flying off shelves this holiday. 100mil lifetime is a posdibility, and I don't think anybody could have said that with a straight face before launch.
Now if Sony could start promoting R&C we could get this party started.
What will be interesting is VR - if it is a success in the long term, 2016 goes down as a great year. If it flops, regardless of hardware sales, 2016 won't be a good year but the year Sony released a duffer.
@Rudy_Manchego If there is a year to release it, though, it is 2016 if damages needed to be limited.
@finalstan Good point - it is certainly the year to take a punt on something new with a solid revenue stream behind you.
My advice is delay! delay! delay!

Where Dreams become a reality...
I still don't expect them to market Ratchet & Clank, all it has going for it now is more exposure since U4 was delayed (and that movie).

After watching what was a very good Ntineod Direct yesterday, what I most care about this year is R&C, U4 and FFXV. Those are my 3 favorite game genres - 3D or open world platforming, whatever you want to call it - Nintnedo owns 2D platforming - JRPG and adventure games, b/c I'm nto sure what else to call Uncharted. Had Nintnedo shown Zelda U yesterday I might have been more excited, but they didn't, so for me, this year is all about PS4. And it would/will be nice to see some R&C hype.
