Naughty Dog always creates eye candy of the highest order, but game director Bruce Straley believes that the studio may have surpassed itself with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End on the PlayStation 4. Writing on Twitter, the veteran stated that he thinks Nathan Drake's latest is "the most visually stunning game ever created". He added: "Key words: I think."
Judging from the recent story trailer, we can't say that we disagree. But of course, looks aren't always the key component when it comes to the quality of a game – just ask Ready at Dawn – and fortunately Straley reckons that this is the best Uncharted from a gameplay perspective as well. The title went gold earlier this week, and we'll all be able to judge it for ourselves this May.

Personally I think Uncharted 3 was the best looking game on PS3 - in fact I think it was the best looking game last gen. I know the Last of Us looked 'great' but U3 had the edge in its more elaborate settings. Every Uncharted is a 'great' looking game though.
I know 'graphics' and Visual presentation aren't everything but Uncharted games have actually caused me to 'stop' playing and admire the level of detail, the scenery etc. The character models help convey their personality and emotion too. The level of detail brings the world into the realms of reality, believability and help give a sense of setting and scale.
I know the PC maybe capable of higher resolution etc but if the developer doesn't put the level of detail into everything, its not necessarily better looking - in my opinion.
From what I've seen so far I completely agree and naughty dog have great pedigree too, if the game play holds up well we're all in for a treat
Yeah, he should have said "console game". I mean don't get me wrong I'm a console guy at heart but PC's are just more powerful.
I just finished Rise of the Tomb Raider on PC and it was gorgeous.
@Neolit great analogy
@Neolit All chess pieces are important, without the pawns - those queens are gone move 1. Instant check.
I thought uncharted 3 was meant to be rubbish?
@themcnoisy 3 isn't bad, it's pretty good as well, it just doesn't stack to Among Thieves.
@Neolit You took the words right out of my mouth. I will say it's not bad to feel good about your work, but don't call it the greatest thing ever.
That's how you become Kanye West.
Oh no it isn't....
I don't think I'd ever agree that a 'realistic' art style could ever be the most visually stunning.
@Neolit the brain is the most important organ in the human body. ACCORDING TO THE BRAIN.
I have confidence in Naughty Dog when it comes to the visuals department. They blew me away with the Last Of Us. This game will run at 1080p and a rock solid 30fps. I hate to say it but digital foundry just released their analysis on Quantum Break for the X1. It is clocking in at, wait for it, 720p, and struggling to maintain 30fps. I'm not trying to start a fan boy war here but that really disappoints me. The original xbox, 15 years ago, had over 50 games that ran at 720p. Even worse, apparently the problems with the fps and resolution rear their ugly head the most right as you aim to shoot an enemy, causing controller lag.
I thought TLOU was the best looking game on the PS3 and ND again has set the bench mark with UC4 on the PS4.
@BAMozzy
I totally agree with that.
Maybe you should put the ''i think'' part in the title kind of a cheap move clickbait.......
@DerMeister Maybe if you read the article completely i think is what he said they should put that in the title.....
For me, "visually stunning" is much more about art direction than it is about realism. So I kinda doubt I'll ultimately hold the same opinion.
@Splat I think people are mistaking resolution over graphics here. So far from what I've seen Uncharted 4 does seem to be the best looking title even when compared to the PC. Just because the PC has these beefy GPU's doesn't mean the developers are even using those to their full potential. Show me a game graphic wise with character animations in-game that beat uncharted 4 because I can't find it and I game on the PC all the freakin time and I have Skyrim modded fully. Uncharted 4 still looks better.
The PC on the other hand has better resolution quality and as well, I can manipulate the game to make it even more crisp on a PC compared to console. graphic wise though, no, uncharted 4 looks better. people just need to deal with it that a console actually has a top graphical powered game.
I think some of you are reading to much into his comment, let's face it he's just finished a major project he's been working on for years, Finishing a much loved series, the games gone gold, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's now on the champagne, white powder and work parties. He'd probably tell you he has the best dog in the world right now
@Splat Risi of the Tomb Raider does look very good,but I think Uncharted 4 actually looks better.
If games can be made to look this good, do we really need Sony to release a Supercharged PS4. Im stull under the belief they should just wait until the PS5 which is probably only around 3 years away.
god of war 3 .the order 1886.killzone shadowfall infamous secon son .and of course ni no kuni are some of the best looking playstation games
@Flaming_Kaiser ...And for someone like me who admittedly reads way too much into words, it can still be seen as an cocky statement. Of course he thinks his game is the best.
Granted, you can make the argument they deserve to be cocky, considering their portfolio.
Dat GIF!
@Royalblues okay, what game?
@Neolit So because they think it's the greatest looking console game ever they shouldn't be allowed to state it? They have opinions just like us, and I find it refreshing get when people show confidence in things they are passionate about. He of course said it was his opinion as well. It may come across as arrogant to some, but I see it as supremely confident and that tells me it's going to be great if the developer is that confident. Also, they tend to make the best looking console games, and that really isn't up for discussion. (As far as realistic graphics go, anyway. Best looking is a somewhat misleading term because for some cartoony or colorful animated style graphics could be their favorite.)
@DerMeister If i say i think i can do better then someone else does that make me cocky. Or does it say i think i can do better and does it make sound modest. It is just how you put it or in what context you say it.
@Flaming_Kaiser It really is. Your example can honestly be written either way. Of course, it's hard to tell from text. I don't mean to run the guy down, but again, I read too much into words, and it honestly wouldn't surprise me if ND started to get their ego slightly inflated.
@WARDIE "If games can be made to look this good, do we really need Sony to release a Supercharged PS4."
I think they want to do it just for PS VR, which they seem to be pushing a lot lately. When's the last time you saw a Ratchet and Clank article? It releases 3 weeks from tomorrow.
See all the wires and that "processor" box in the pic below. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just plug 1 wire from the PS VR into the PS4.5 and not need to plug wires into a box, plug the box into an electrical outlet to keep it powered up, and then plug that box into the PS4 which has limited USB ports as it is? They'd probably call it PS4VR.
Just Naughty Dog being Naughty Dog. Most visually stunning on the PS4, yes.
Yeah right. It's a good looking game, to be sure, but I would never call it the most "visually stunning game ever created."
More "stunning" games with a realistic visual style include:
P.T.
Star Wars Battlefront
The Order: 1886
Games with more "stunning" art design include:
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
Killer is Dead
Okami
imo, of course.
@Ralizah Really now? They are good looking games but visually not better. There is a difference between visually stunning vs games that you really like to play. There could be a game you truely hate, you have to set aside that aspect and just look at the visuals. I'm not saying you hate uncharted, but to say TLoZ:Wind waker is better visually, absolutely not.
@Kamikaze_Krunch I didn't say Wind Waker was visually superior. I said I think it has better art design.
For art design, I still don't think those games match up because at some point the art design will still be visually superior. clearly you prefer the fantasy art style over a realistic look. That's really not what is being discussed here but rather the game is visually superior, but I still haven't seen an example of any game that is visually superior P.T while it looks good, it's not visually superior graphic wise, same goes for Star Wars: Battlefront. The order:1886 could be better but remember, it's saying that, that game is still visually superior to that of a PC title which no one as of yet proved wrong.
