PS4 Multiplayer Will Be Free This Weekend

No need for a PlayStation Plus sub

You won't need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play PlayStation 4 multiplayer this weekend. Sony's confirmed that in North America at least, online play will be totally free from 00:01AM PT on Friday, 19th February through until 23:59PM PT on Sunday, 21st February. Assuming the servers hold, this may be a good opportunity for you to sink some scrubs in Street Fighter V.

It's unclear whether the free weekend will extend to Europe, but we'll check in with the platform holder and clarify for you now. Sony regularly holds these events for non-PlayStation Plus subscribers, though if you play your PS4 regularly, we really would recommend purchasing an annual sub to the service. It's not going to break the bank, after all.

this may be a good opportunity for you to sink some scrubs in Street Fighter V.

I would imagine anyone who plays games like Street Fighter would already have PlayStation Plus, but otherwise it's a good chance to check out multiplayer for those that haven't got a subscription.

I disagree that it's essential to have a subscription. Ive been a plus holder for the last 4 years but recently let it run out. The standard of the service has seriously dropped.

I am wondering why I bothered with my subscription. I have had it almost a year and don't play any multiplayer games and don't care for the games.

I don't have a subscription and there are no online games that compel me to.
That may very well change once Trackmania Turbo comes out.

I will take advantage of this, with SFV and maybe Rocket League. Haven't paid Plus because I am not sure my Internet is good enough.

I really don't see why we have to pay for online suddenly when PS3s online worked perfectly fine and was completely free, same for WiiU... Only thing I can think of is greed, I mean, it's not like Sony don't already make far more than enough money off everything they make and sell...

btw, I do not have plus, and I have never felt the need to. I have either only single player games, or games that I'm able to play locally with friends. That being said, I intend to get as many multiplayer trophies as possible this weekend before I go back to being a ps plus pauper.

I buy games with the PS+ discount fairly regularly so it's a no brainer to keep my sub running even if I'm not playing online games (which I do, from time to time)
