Call of Duty PS4 PlayStation 4 Infinity Ward 1

Once upon a time, the prospect of a new Infinity Ward developed Call of Duty would be hot news – but the studio's stocks have fallen dramatically in recent years. Since releasing smash hits like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2, the developer's been on a bit of a downward spiral, with Ghosts being one of the worst entries in the ever-popular series so far.

But, as anticipated, it'll be whipping out its obnoxiously decorated shotgun and blasting the PlayStation 4 with a brand new instalment later this year. There's no word on which direction the obligatory FPS will take, but Activision described it as "innovative" in its investors meeting. We're going to recommend that executives double-check the definition of that word.

Seriously, though, it's been three years since Infinity Ward released a game, and it's been hiring like crazy since then, so it'll be interesting to see what it brings to the fore. One thing that we can be sure of is that Sony will be a primary partner, as the PlayStation maker signed a long-term marketing deal with Activision prior to the release of Black Ops III.
