We're not sure that many of you expected to see actual gameplay from Final Fantasy VII Remake at the PlayStation Experience, but that's what we got. Given the recent history of the Final Fantasy saga and Square Enix's supposed inability to develop any new titles within a reasonable amount of time, we had a horrible gut feeling that we wouldn't be seeing the game again until much later down the line, but thankfully, the Japanese publisher seems to understand how the company's output - or lack thereof - has been perceived over the last few years.

Posting on the official Square Enix blog, director Yoshinori Kitase alludes to the fact that the release is further into development than some may have thought. "Just like when we revealed the announcement trailer at E3 earlier this year, we like surprising you," he writes.

Clearly aware of the impatience surrounding projects such as Final Fantasy XV, Kitase goes on to say that "One thing that we wanted to be clear about during [the PlayStation Experience] to accompany the new trailer was the scale of this project. We wanted to tell you this now and not in the future so that you'd share our vision for what we want to deliver."

"We've seen everyone's comments and reactions to the news that FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE will be a multi-part series and many have speculated correctly as to the reason why we have made this decision," he continues. "If we were to try to fit everything from the original into one remake instalment, we would have to cut various parts and create a condensed version of FINAL FANTASY VII. We knew none of you would have wanted that," Kitase explains, hinting that the remake will have a lot of depth to it.

He concludes: "Going beyond the scale and depth of the world, narrative and gameplay from the original to deliver something that feels familiar yet new. As I said before, we like delivering surprises."

So, it sounds as though Final Fantasy VII Remake - or at least the first part of it - isn't as far away as you may have thought. Do you have confidence in what Kitase is saying here, or are you sceptical of the project upon hearing that the game will be broken up into chunks?
