It's been dark for quite a while, but Cyberpunk 2077 is destined to leap back into the limelight in the relatively near future. With production having shifted to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's two expansion packs - the first of which is out on PlayStation 4 next week - CD Projekt Red will be thinking about how to start pushing its next property.
According to visual effects artist Jose Teixeira, "Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before". Speaking to MCV, he adds: "We're really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter."
With the critical and commercial success of The Witcher 3, it's no surprise that the Polish developer is now using the title as a benchmark when developing Cyberpunk 2077, as Teixeira explains: "The Witcher helped Cyberpunk quite a bit, because the game got so big and so complex that it really taught us [...] I can guarantee that almost everyone in that studio has something that they go 'I did this this time, next time I can do it differently, I can do it better'."
A single CG trailer is all that we've seen of the supposedly gritty role-playing game so far, but we'd put money on hearing more about the highly anticipated release as we move into 2016. Are you eager to see what CD Projekt Red has been cooking up? Feel free to watch the fantastic reveal video again, and then relay your hype levels to us in the comments section below.

This could be mad as cheese
I'm still playing The Witcher and this is going to be bigger? Is it even possible?
As much as I loved the Wticher...I'm not sure I'd personally want a bigger game. Depends what the term "bigger" is being used to describe.
Bigger is not always better. Then again, they lost me at 'Cyberpunk' I'm afraid.
I'm looking forward to this, looks different and the style looks like something I'd really dig.
Sounds good to me.
Definitely has the potential to be something really special.
@get2sammyb
Don't just write something off because of the theme Sammy! A mate of mine refused to play the Witcher 3 because he doesn't like "medieval high- fantasy bs", but when watching me play I noticed him chuckling every now and then with some dialogues and he was admitting that "it sure does look it's part" about every 5 minutes.
You probably already guessed that he is hooked now, bought a strategy guide and extra compendium, a comic book etc etc. There are developers who can make you like Cyberpunk, I'm absolutely positive. Blizzard could do it, Rockstar most definitely and I give CDPR a good chance as well. Blizzard made me even care about card games ánd MOBAs within a year...I'm still mad at them
I'm more excited for this than I was for Witcher 3.
@JesWood13 Yeah gotta agree. Bit tired of the swords and shields tropes at the moment. Some cyberpunk scifi goodness would be lovely.
Made by same peeps behind witcher 3? , sign me up.
Anyway I'm not sure they necessarily mean bigger as in a bigger world, more like a more complex world and scenarios. Nothing wrong with that.

Read between the lines mannnn
CD Projekt Red has really won me over. I'm interested in anything they do moving forward.
@Boerewors I'll definitely give it a chance, but while I'm quite fond of the logo, I doubt it'll be for me.
I'm 10000% more hyped for this than I was for Witcher. Ever since I saw the trailer those few years ago, I've been waiting for more info - makes me kind of sad CD Project Red used most of the resources towards The Witcher and not this game Also, Cyberpunk was one of my favourite paper RPG back when I used to play it due to its climate. Its simply fantastic!
@get2sammyb I feel exactly the same way. It reminds me of how I switch from loving Bethesda when an Elder Scrolls game comes out to just not caring when it's time for a new Fallout.
personal responsibility.....personal responsibility.
Really looking forward to this one, you know it's going to be amazing. But I think we'll be waiting quite a long time for it.
@LieutenantFatman 2017 at the earliest!
@kyleforrester87 That's what I'm thinking man, haha. I'm already kinda burnt out on the magic, swords and shields type RPGs already. Dragon Age Inquisition, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 2, and Witcher 3 have been so time consuming, and playing all of them within the past year has me burnt out on the typical fantasy RPG. It's time for some sci-fi and JRPGs damn it!
I liked the Witcher, but this could be Mass Effect to the Witcher's Jade Empire.
We've seen what CDPR can do with a relatively modest budget (comparitively speaking of course), so imagine what they could do now.
This company sold me over and I will be giving a serious look at anything they put out.
This looks like it could be really good, but agaim, why has the trailer been out for two years and we probably have 2 or 3 more years until this game sees the light of day? Call me old fashioned, but I don't see the advantage in showing your hand so early. I remember being hyped for this in 2013 for crying out loud. Still, I trust CDPR, so I guess I'll give them a pass this time, lol.
@get2sammyb
You know what I've found after years of playing video games on just about every console from A-Z?
I've found that any genre- any game- any type of game, can be fun and can be for me. Not that all will- certainly not. But I've found that if done right, I can enjoy just about any game out there.
From grid based strategy games like Fire Emblem and Jeanne d'Arc (a PSP masterpiece), to FPS like Far Cry and Call of Duty, to cart racers like Mario Kart and Sonic Racing Transformed, to 2D platformers like Donkey Kong Country and Rayman, to western RPG's like The Witcher and Dragon Age, to stealth games like Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid, to rhythm games like Rhythm Heaven and Persona 4: Dancing All Night, to competitive shooters like Splatoon and Gears of War, to racers like Forza Horizon (and I hate realistic racers, yet here I found one I love!), to JRPG's like Xenoblade and Final Fantasy, even to relaxed SIM's like Animal Crossing.... and all kinds of games in between.
Now I live for seeking and searching out games in every genre imaginable, always on the prowl for that one game that can make me fall in love with a new genre. It just takes the right game is all. A year ago I would have laughed at the thought of playing a dancing game, yet P4: DAN is one of the finest games I've played all year! A year ago I would have mocked the idea of playing some "casual" little life sim like Animal Crossing. Yet now, having tasted that savory goodness for myself, my eyes are opened. You know I used to DESPISE any and all RPG's? Turn based games killed brain cells the way I saw it. Then along came Fire Emblem Awakening and changed my life forever. I immediately followed up with Final Fantasy X, a game that I had give up on and deemed "trash" not 6 months prior. And I loved it! It just took seeing it in a new light- it took playing that one game to get me into the turn based genre.
Not to presume I know more about what you like than you do, it's just that, I think you'd be surprised at how many great games there are out there an arms length away, nestled just outside of your comfort zone
nooo... I want a focused story campaign... just saying..
@milero91 same here, I loved Witcher 3 but there was just too much, especially all the extra bits on dotted about skellig Isles.
