Kara PS3 PS4 PlayStation

Kara was, according to director David Cage, just a tech demo designed to showcase Quantic Dream's new PlayStation 3 technology. But after garnering over 27 million views across various platforms, the Parisian developer was forced to revisit the concept. The clip shows an android being assembled, but her ability to "feel" human emotions is considered a production fault by her manufacturer. She eventually talks her way out of the factory in which she's being created – and that's where Detroit: Become Human will pick up.

According to Cage, the short story was never intended to be extended – but after years of people asking what happens next, he had to find out. The new game, due out exclusively on the PlayStation 4, will tackle Kara's integration into society, in a world that's growing increasingly intolerant of its cyborg neighbours. It's not a new story by any stretch, but by coming at it from the angle of the androids, Quantic Dream does have the opportunity to put a fresh spin on a familiar tale. If nothing else, we expect the production values to be top notch.

We've included the original Kara demo below, but if you want to watch the Detroit: Become Human trailer, point your peepers through here. Also interesting is our original 2012 article on the tech demo, which you can find through here.
