You'll rarely find this editor getting angry over game announcements, but Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is one rumour that your humble host was hoping wouldn't come true. The forthcoming PlayStation VR exclusive is a rails shooter in the most literal sense, taking you on a warped roller coaster inside the mind of one Until Dawn character. We think that we know who, but it'll be a spoiler if we explain why.
The game could end up being fine, but a title like this threatens to belittle everything that's great about Supermassive Games' fledgling series – and could derail the franchise before it's even really picked up speed. As big fans of the main game, we pray that that's not the case, because we saw a very bright future for Until Dawn in its original guise, and we'd like to see that continue.

Ugh, VR.......don't get caught up in your recent successes Sony.
This is just an odd decision. This can easily be made without Until Dawn's name.
Though maybe otherwise, it would have just been treated as another VR horror thing. I still think it's odd.
@DerMeister
They're banking on the relative succes UD had, I think it's a smart move. Because it's VR only it won't really harm the brand if it turns out to be a turd, so there is little risk involved. And to let VR succeed it's smart to have some big(gish) names attached to it so people have more faith in the line up.
But I do get your sentiments though, cause this game seems mainly about on rails jumpscares, which is the opposite of what the original is about. But people who'll expect some unique storytelling will probably get burned.
Talking bout storytelling and this IP, they could've done so much more. I can even imagine a game where you sit around a campfire at a summer camp in the same woods as where the horrors took place and the camp leader/ story teller starts talking bout them. By reading your save file the story progresses and you see little shards of it playing in first person, as if your character is day dreaming or imagining them. You would even have the chance to alter the outcome by letting the kid you control ask "what if.....".
This would be so immersive, wouldn't take a lot of work because most footage is already there and that would do the IP justice.
As long as this comes bundled with the VR I have no problem with this. Its been a while since I played a Rail shooter.
Edit: So after thinking about it some more, I do understand why you see this as a problem. Personally this game won't be canon and won't generally be remember while comparing it to the success the franchise may bring if they continue making games like the first one, under the original premise and style. I absolutely sleeper loved Until Dawn, and I hope they'd make any succesor to be VR compatible because the game was outstanding as it was, but I'd love it as a VR experience more (Main game style).
if by rail shooter they mean house of the dead style then I'm excited because I love that genre and we don't get much on it anymore... If they mean call of duty style then not interested
