Rumours surfaced yesterday that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's developer, CD Projekt Red, was in the process of signing some sort of contract with EA - presumably to sell itself off to the publisher. This lead to outbursts around the internet, but these virtual riots only lasted around half an hour before they were calmed by the studio, which said on Twitter that it knew of no such thing.

You'd think that'd be enough to make everyone shut up, but apparently not. The Polish developer has now issued a statement to our pals at Eurogamer that completely shoots down any lingering whispers. "We usually don't comment on rumours but this one has become quite viral and we think it deserves to be put to bed," explained co-founder Marcin Iwinski. He continues: "We are not talking with anyone regarding selling CD Projekt Red or GOG.com. Period. And the payslip is a fake - it was not issued by our company." There we go, then - case closed.

Clearly, yesterday's rumours had hit a point where the studio was sick and tired of them, which lead to its subsequent address. Again, it's another example of why we should always sit back, take a deep breath, and think carefully about what it is that we're reading. Of course, that goes for the gaming media, too.
