Look, you'll really just have to trust us on this one. Today at Sony's pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, Square Enix announced that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue will be coming to PlayStation 4, with an official trailer releasing on 17th September. Yes, that's really what it's called. No, we are not making this up.
Setting aside its maddening moniker, the title itself will come packed with three separate games, including a remaster of the 3DS' Dream Drop Distance, as well as two fragmentary episodes. These shorter experiences will act as the prequels to the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts III, which was announced a few E3s ago.
Do you like the look of this latest entry in the long-running franchise? Are you just as incensed at the game's ridiculous name as we are? Let us know in the comments section below.

I really enjoyed Dream Drop Distance on 3DS, kind of a shame there is no PS3 love considering the other collections are on it.
Interesting, although to be honest I would much rather they just hurried up and ported all of the KH HD collections to the Vita. It was a success with FFX/X-2, so I see no reason why they wouldn't do it, especially given that the Vita still seems to have a lot of love in the East!
I would absolutely snap that up in a heartbeat. If nothing else, us Vita owners desperately deserve a way to finally play Birth By Sleep on Vita. While they're at it, doing an HD Vita port of Crisis Core with trophy support some time prior to the release of the FFVII remake wouldn't go amiss either. Oh, and when the inevitable FFXII HD comes out, let the Vita have that too, cheers.
Highly doubt any of the above will happen, but we can dream!
I got dream drop distance for my 3ds but really didn't enjoy it. I don't know if it's because I didn't like the direction they took it in (between the motion and the monster pets) or if I really just don't like playing handhelds as much. If this is eventually super cheap, I may pick it up...
Hmmm. I'm starved for some KH. This may fit the bill.
The name really isn't that weird. I mean, nothing beats 358/2 Days. All the names here are extremely straightforward.
Yeah baby. Dream Drop Distance in HD is gonna look great. =D
P.S. - do we think that they went with 2.8 instead of a 2.9 for surprise factor? There were rumors that there was a game called 2.9 for the past few months.
I'm actually really disappointed in this, even though I know it l be a big deal for a lot of people. I was hoping this would actually be like a prologue adventure.
Awesome
@ztpayne7 yeah that's what I was thinking too.
Though glad I didn't pick up DDD for my new 3ds as planned and went with monster hunter 4 AND Xenoblade instead, good s*** surely!
So... Which games were in the 1.5 and 2.5 collections?
Maybe we'll see those on PS4 as well, and maybe that 2.9 is on the way too. There's plenty of choices for remasters- they could make a full collection from the DS entries alone
@JaxonH Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix includes both Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and Re:Chain of Memories in high-definition and with trophy support. Additionally, the collection features Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days in a Theater Mode, spanning 2 hours and 50 minutes of HD remastered cinematics from the original game, as well as new scenes.
2:Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix includes Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix in high definition and with trophy support. Additionally, the collection features Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, also in a theatermode as in 1,5's style.
So, quite alot
But I agree, 2,9 could very well be happening and be playable HD remasters of the Nintendo-releases, why not since 2.8 is mainly a 3ds hd-release. Clever thinking there man, not just saying that cos I was thinking the same hehe
Any way for us who have never played KH 1 and 2 on PS4? That's all I care about. If not, than I won't even know if I'll want 3.
If only 1.5 and 2.5 were bundled with this so all could be on PS4, that would be so awesome wishful thinking...
This is awesome news, though I do hope that Chi and BBS Vol 2 aren't cutscene only.
@ShoryukenKid @Radbot42 @Jazzer94 I'm hoping that Square-Enix will re-release both 1.5 and 2.5 on PS4 eventually, we'll just have to wait until sometime in 2016 probably.
@JaxonH Kingdom Hearts 1.5 included KH1, KH Re: CoM, and KH: 358/2 Days, while 2.5 included KH2, KH: BBS, and KH Re: Coded.
