Gamescom 2015 PlayStation 4 PS4

Sony's not going to Gamescom 2015 next week – at least, that's what the drama queens would have you believe. The reality is that while the platform holder's postponed its annual press conference until Paris Games Week in October, the PlayStation 4 will still be stomping the cobbles of Cologne, with many a major title on display. In classic Push Square fashion, we've picked the ten attendees that we most want to learn more about, but you're welcome to share your suggestions in the comments section, too. Go on, we won't bite – well, unless you taste like a fine German frankfurter, of course.

Gamescom 2015 PlayStation 4 PS4 Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed Syndicate

Gamescom 2015 is the perfect event for Ubisoft to really push the next instalment of its most profitable series, which is slowly gathering speed as we grow closer to its release date. For many, Syndicate has yet to prove that it's more cockney than mockney, but we reckon that with a solid new gameplay trailer and maybe some hands-on impressions, it could really start to ramp up the hype for this particularly brutal trip to London.

Gamescom 2015 PlayStation 4 PS4 Deus Ex

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

We've seen a decent amount of Mankind Divided, especially when you consider that it won't launch until next year. That said, we'd like to see more of it at Gamescom 2015, if only to satiate our hunger for robotic limbs that turn into big automatic weapons. On a serious note, though, it feels like Adam Jensen's upcoming escapade got a bit lost in the post-E3 onslaught, so we'd at least like to see it fight for some limelight at 2015's German expo.

Gamescom 2015 PlayStation 4 PS4 Fallout 4

Fallout 4

Easily one of the most anticipated titles of the year, we've no doubt that Fallout 4 will blow up at Gamescom 2015. Bethesda's latest got a hefty dose of gameplay footage at E3 – perhaps more so than any other game – but with its release date already beginning to loom over us like the shadow of a colossal mushroom cloud, this is a post-apocalyptic adventure that everyone wants to see more of. As such, we can see it getting another rad gameplay demo, complete with super mutants.

Gamescom 2015 PlayStation 4 PS4 Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV

We've been writing speculatively about Final Fantasy XV for a disgusting number of years, and we reckon that it's high time that that changed. We daresay that for some, Gamescom 2015 is make or break for Square Enix's grossly anticipated title – especially since it decided to skip E3 entirely. The publisher's already shared its plans for the game at the German expo, and our hopes hinge on a one hour livestream that supposedly promises new information on the role-playing release. If it gets a launch date, we'd be willing to forgive and forget, but at this point we're never going to expect anything more than the bare minimum from Noctis and the gang.

Gamescom 2015 PlayStation 4 PS4 Hitman

Hitman

Agent 47's shiny scalp is scheduled to put in an appearance on the PS4 this year – but we've seen so little of the suited assassin's latest outing that we reckon a big Gamescom showing is in order. Most concerning is the game's business model, which will see murderous missions deployed over time. We want to know how this rollout is going to work, and what each update will include. We'd also like to see a bit of gameplay – after all, a few minutes of leaked footage are all that we have to go on right now, which publisher Square Enix speedily wacked.

Gamescom 2015 PlayStation 4 PS4 Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon: Zero Dawn

The jewel in the crown of a very special E3 2015, Guerrilla Games has confirmed that we'll be seeing a little something of Horizon: Zero Dawn at next week's German convention. Exactly what the Dutch developer has in mind remains to be seen, but with the title's action already established, we'd like to learn a little more about the role-playing mechanics that will make this post-post-apocalyptic adventure tick. What will the loot look like? Will there be dialogue trees? Does protagonist Aloy ever actually stop talking? We demand answers.

Gamescom 2015 PlayStation 4 PS4 Mafia III 3

Mafia III

Mafia III has promised to make us an offer that we can't refuse at Gamescom 2015 – and we're wearing our fedoras in anticipation. 2K Games' teaser artwork has raised many questions about this hotly anticipated open world release – like, is it really set in the seventies for starters? This sequel has been in development long enough for three-piece suits to go in and out of fashion, so we're hoping that the publisher's got plenty of gameplay to tempt us with.

Gamescom 2015 PlayStation 4 PS4 Mass Effect Andromeda

Mass Effect Andromeda

EA did the dirty on us at E3 by providing a shockingly short 60 second CG trailer for the next Mass Effect – and we're still bitter. Thankfully, the publisher's got a chance to redeem itself at Gamescom 2015 by showing us just about anything more substantial at its press conference. We're not asking for a gigantic gameplay demo for a title that's not slated to release until late 2016, but at this point we'd easily settle for a bit more information on BioWare's latest intergalactic experience.

Gamescom 2015 PlayStation 4 PS4 Mirror's Edge Catalyst

Mirror's Edge Catalyst

Despite her red sneakers being laced ahead of a February 2016 release, Faith was given short shrift at E3 2015. We got a quick glimpse at DICE's sandbox City of Glass, but the Swedish studio never really got an opportunity to talk combat, missions, and side-quests. As such, we want the developer to give us a much more thorough run through of Mirror's Edge Catalyst's features, as well as a lengthier look at the parkour-inspired prequel's moment-to-moment gameplay flow.

Gamescom 2015 PlayStation 4 PS4 Star Wars Battlefront

Star Wars: Battlefront

Star Wars: Battlefront is a license for publisher EA to print money, but as the biggest game of the year, the onus is on developer DICE to show why it'll also be one of the best. New maps and modes are an absolute must, but we'd also like to learn what's going to keep this game feeling fresh. Our biggest worry right now is that the final product is going to favour style over substance; the familiar sound effects and iconic locations should appeal to every nerd's nostalgia, but what's going to be the hook that keeps fledgling force apprentices coming back?
