Dreams PlayStation 4 PS4

What is Dreams? Media Molecule isn't really telling us a whole lot about the PlayStation 4 exclusive right now, but Shuhei Yoshida has answers. Chatting on a GameSpot stream with the Kinda Funny crew, the Worldwide Studios president delved into a little more detail about the mysterious project – and promised more information soon.

"It's like a next-gen creation platform by Media Molecule," he started. "So you can slice that project in many different angles; it's a huge project in terms of what it can do. We decided that in order for people to understand what it is, it's going to take some time to digest – we can't throw everything out at the same time. So we strategized to use this E3 to pique some interest [...] and at Paris Games Week, we're going to show a lot more."

In essence, it sounds like a grand creation platform that will allow people to contribute different parts. "It's much more flexible than LittleBigPlanet, where you essentially make action levels," he added. "Here you don't need to make a game – you can, of any kind – but you can also create paintings or animate a character. The basic concept is making creations more intuitive. We are envisioning artists or musicians will contribute something that they are really good at and share it with the community. And anyone can take anyone's creations and build grander projects."

So, in essence, it sounds like you'll be able to build parts of bigger projects which you'll then be able to share with everyone else. For example, as a musician you may opt to compose a really cool soundtrack, which could be used as the audio in someone else's role-playing game. Meanwhile, someone else might draw a character, which could be used as the protagonist. Mind boggling stuff – but incredible if it works.
