Nolan North, ever the interesting interviewee and voice of Nathan Drake, has recently revealed that around 8 months of work on Uncharted 4: A Thief's End was scrapped after director Amy Hennig left Naughty Dog back in March of 2014. "We had shot 8 months of her story and it was all thrown away," the voice actor stated at a MetroCon panel.
"I don't know what happened exactly. Amy is still a very dear friend of mine and she's brilliant but the Last of Us guys were the next team there so they took over and they just wanted their own flavour," North continued. However, he does go on to say that the personnel swap didn't have a huge impact on the direction of the title's story, and that the team at Naughty Dog is still very much committed to the project.
Nevertheless, eight months of recording work going down the drain is rather substantial, and no doubt partly explains why development of the 2016 release was lengthened as the game was delayed into next year. if you're eager to see the full panel, feel free to click through here, but in the meantime, why not take a seat and tell us what you make of this in the comments section below.

Well that settles it, this is a vastly different Uncharted 4.
Im not so sure I like developments like this... :/
This moved from a "buy instantly" to a "wait and see if the story is any good" title.
Naughty Dog has yet to let me down. Day one for me...
I honestly dont know why some people are concerned . Druckmann and straley were responsible for Uncharted 2. Which is a vastly superior game than uncharted 3( which they were not involved in). Any hennig an justin richmond were the leads for Uncharted 3,. Druckmann and bruce straley have already proved they can make a better uncharted game than that pair!
@Neolit I don't have any kids and I would have done the same too because you've been on this journey and went through so much and lost so much that you didn't want it to be all for nothing. Also I was pleased Naughty Dog had the conviction to tell the ending they wanted rather then giving players a choice.
The problem with Uncharted 3 was that Sony announced a release date a year in advance so the devs were rather pushed, which is why I feel the second half of game was just jumping from set piece to set piece without the narrative really stringing them together. Didn't help when most of those set pieces were spoiled in trailers too.
This is fine by me. Uncharted 2 and TLOU are the superior Naughty Dog games. Somehow they need to put U3 behind them and find a way to tell another epic adventure.
yeah...a bit of a freshen up is good...hopefully this isn't the end for sully and nate.
or maybe combine TLOU and uncharted..that'd be interesting...
This is good news. Niel Druckmann and Bruce Straley are the masterminds behind Uncharted 2 and The Last Of Us, two of the greatest games of all time are the some of the best devs in the industry. There passion for their work is astounding. I can't wait Drake is going to go out with a bang for his final game.
Nobody likes losing a large amount of progress, but in this case what we have still seems to be good. All I can say is that we just gotta wait and see.
@Davros79 Has already said it but I'm surprised some Uncharted fans didn't already known this.
Not exactly shocking news because we knew Hennig was off the project. That's a crap ton of work, however, and something must have gone seriously wrong. From what I understand though a lot of the core team behind this, including Druckmann and Straley, were big players on Uncharted 2 (easily the best in the series), so my confidence in the game isn't shot and what was shown at E3 seemed like the kind of craziness I expect in from Uncharted. Only thing that sucks is Hennig didn't get to see the series through to the end. She did some incredible work helping to build this into a powerhouse franchise for the PlayStation brand.
@Davros79 Totally agree. Sorry for Amy Hennig & co who left... But U2 is superior to U3 in all ways... With U2 & TLOU on their belts, I'm more looking forward to U4!
