DiRT Rally PS4 PlayStation 4

Codemasters, the firm best known for racing games such as GRID, is a bit of a British institution, so it's positively peculiar that it's still yet to release a PlayStation 4 title. The company will be hitting the new-gen starting grid with F1 2015 a little later this year, but the organisation also seems keen on bringing DiRT Rally to Sony's system.

For those out of the loop, the simulation racer launched on Steam Early Access earlier in the year, where the developer's committed to tweaking and tuning the experience based on player feedback. Unlike its immediate predecessors, this package plots a return to the Colin McRae days of yore, focusing on demanding physics and challenging point-to-point races.

And once it's completed the game, it seems likely that it will be burning rubber on consoles. "Early Access is the pathway or road that we're using, but I think that once we get to the end of that road we can confidently be packaging and curating a console experience from the content… I think that it's something that we should be actively looking to do," lead designer Paul Coleman told Red Bull.

To be honest, it's becoming increasingly clear that the PS4 is a little light in the racing game space. Milestone's two-wheeled titles are generally decent, but outside of those there's only really Need for Speed: Rivals, DriveClub, and the recently released Project CARS to choose from. DiRT Rally would certainly bring something fresh to the system, so we hope that it navigates its way over eventually.
