Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 III PS4 PlayStation 4

The ageing PlayStation 3 may have just got another nail embedded into its coffin, as it sounds like Call of Duty: Black Ops III will be skipping last-gen systems, and focusing on the latest round of hardware, such as the PlayStation 4. An early article from Mashable – which includes the handful of screenshots embedded within – has hinted at the tidbit, while we already know that the game's beta will only run on new-gen machines.

The remainder of the preview focuses on the futuristic escapade itself, confirming that it'll feature four-player campaign co-op, as well as a new movement system, which sounds a bit like Titanfall. "You can run along a wall, jetpack through the air, switch directions mid-jump, and land with a lengthy power-slide," the article explains. Apparently you'll be able to shoot mid-manoeuvre, too, so this is going to need a kick ass control scheme.

We're not going to lift Mashable's article wholesale, so we'd encourage you to check out its write-up through here if you're interested in more info. The title's first trailer is due out later today, and we'll bring you all of the details as they drop. You should already have a good idea of what to expect by now, though, eh? The big question is: are the reports ticking your boxes? Let us know in the comments section below.

Update (19:45PM BST): Treyarch's told Eurogamer.net that it's only working on PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops III. However, that doesn't rule out a potential PS3 port from another studio. When asked for comment, Activision said that it had no further platform announcements to make at this time. Hmm...
