Par for the course

EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour may not have the most memorable name, but the publisher is at least attempting to make an unforgettable game. As part of the golf simulation's very first gameplay trailer, the Redwood-based organisation has offered a brief overview of the title's various control options: Arcade, Classic, and Tour.

The former is the most straightforward setting, combining a forgiving analogue input with various post-shot assists. Meanwhile, the Classic option adopts the Everybody's Golf-esque triple-click format, while Tour is the most difficult default, requiring precise analogue strokes without any of the assists. You can also create your own controls by mixing and matching elements of all three.

The trailer also details course personalities: different locations and surfaces will prompt the ball to behave uniquely, changing your approach dramatically. Moreover, foliage will have a much greater impact on your game: no longer will you be able to hit and hope through thick woodland, as there's a chance that the ball will get caught in the vegetation.

There's much more on EA Sports' official website, including intel on aiming arcs, putting, and ball drops. Needless to say, visually it's looking stunning – well, Monster McIlroy aside. The game's due out from 14th July, where it will tie in to the Open Championship at St. Andrews. Does this look like an eagle to you? Hit the links in the comments section below.
