Sony's temporarily dropped the price of the PlayStation 4 in the UK, as it continues to battle hard against the Xbox One. Those of you that keep a close eye on the British games industry will know that Microsoft recently dropped the price of its machine to £299.99 as part of a "retail-led promotion", and now the Japanese giant's followed its lead – until 28th April at least.
Massive high street and online stores such as GAME, Tesco, Amazon, Argos, and Very are all on board, with some cutting as low as £289.00. Considering that the console's supposed to sell for £349.99 officially, that's a pretty decent deal – even if it has been lower at some outlets before. And with the likes of Bloodborne already out, there's never been a better time to buy.

Nice to see the hardware battle livening up but tbh PS4 has been £299 on Amazon and elsewhere for quite a while already...
@BLPs - Few are bigger supporters of the Wii U on this site than I am, but even I know Sony has no need to compete w/ Nintendo on price. (blu ray player, 500GB HDD) And from what I've read here and on sister site Nintendo Life the Wii U is barely even carried in store in the UK, it's like a figment of their collective imagination, and Nintnedo as a whole seems like an after thought in the UK.
So it won't get to the Wii U price point, but Wii U should be so much lower anyway, Ninteod is blind to that fact, and the Wii U price is, sadly, irrelevant.
If PS4 can get to the magic £249 price point. Its game over X1. @rjejr unfortunately Nintendo fans of old have long since left the nest. The reached out to the casual console crowd which was a success in the short term but a massive mistake in the longterm. They are now left in the encumbered handheld market. I was an ardent gamecube owner and it feels like that all over again.
@themcnoisy Agreed, I was an ardent Nintendo fanboy back in the days of the NES, SNES, Gameboy & N64. I think Nintendo really lost their way in the UK with the Wii. Yes they gained the casual gamer market, but with all the best intentions Nintendo has flopped in the UK of late.
@rjejr It's true, sadly. Most of my local games retailers have entire walls dedicated to the PS4 and Xbox One, while the Wii U usually gets a token section tucked away in the corner. I imagine it's a similar story nationwide.
@get2sammyb
I imagine it's a similar story worldwide. I live in the State of Best Buy, and in every Best Buy here, Nintendo as a whole takes up less shelf space than the PS4 or XBO by themselves. That includes leftover Wii and DS bits, Wii U, 3DS, and Amiibo. The company needs to just go third party--and it took me a long time to come to this realization, but their hardware is just a massive hurdle that consumers and gamers are not interested in leaping.
Per the topic at hand, I'm curious why Sony hasn't done price cuts like this in the US, where MS is clearly maintaining their "$350 promo price" without an end date. I guess the PS4 is selling well enough here as is.
@get2sammyb its the same in Merseyside and Plymouth I go to different stores. I was shocked to see vita games in toys r us the other day that's a similar situation.
@get2sammyb - I've never been to Japan, but I'm guessing it's similar there for the Xbox One to Wii U in UK. PS3 probably has a larger presence than Wii U and X 1 combined, PS3 Lives! Wii U should have a better presence next week w/ the XX bundle though, not sure when X1 will have a boost.
Sounds COOL This makes me wonder what is wrong with SONY PS USA?! They could of dropped the price of the PS4 last Nov/Dec in the USA & took on MS, like it seems SONY PS UK does sometimes? Hmm, Jack was CR*P(i liked him tho) & the New guy seems the same, shame :-/
@Carl-G at the right now exchange rate you get $1.50 roughly for every £1. That means a £300 machine should cost $450. Taking a quick look on amazon for that price you guys from the usa also get two games bundled. So actually you have gotten a great deal all along and its us Brits who have been paying over the odds.
