Dissidia Arcade Sticks

We've known for a little while now that there's a new Dissidia Final Fantasy in the works, but it's only been confirmed for release in Japanese arcades. This currently remains the case, but thanks to an ongoing Japanese press conference, we'd dare to think that it'll end up on the PlayStation 4 eventually.

Why, you ask? Well, the hint's in the fact that the game's arcade machine will feature what is essentially a DualShock 4 controller that's split into halves as its method of control. Not very subtle, eh? As you can see in the picture that we've embedded, each half has basically been made into a separate joystick.

What's more, it turns out that the title's actually being developed by Team Ninja – the studio behind the Dead or Alive series. If nothing else, this is quite an interesting revelation, given that Square Enix has now dished out development of its games to two studios under the Koei Tecmo umbrella, with Omega Force behind Dragon Quest Heroes.

Are you hoping that this new Final Fantasy fighter makes it to PS4? Prepare by sprucing up your skills in the comments section below.

Update: Dissidia Final Fantasy will not only take advantage of an adapted DualShock 4 – it's also running on PlayStation 4 hardware. SCEJ president Atsushi Morita put in an appearance during Square Enix's presentation to stress that he'd love the game to release on home consoles, but producer Ichiro Hazama countered that it'll be exclusive to arcades for at least a year.

So, a PS4 game running on PS4 hardware with an adapted PS4 controller is, er, not currently announced for PS4. Square Enix, pls!
