Mortal Kombat X PS4 PlayStation 4

You can dive into Mortal Kombat X and have a good time without any prior practice, as the game is pretty easy to get to grips with. However, if you want to master the online mode, then you're going to need to learn some kombos – which isn't as straightforward as it should be. The inputs are easy enough, but many have complained that they're not registering properly – and this is due to a settings issue in the game.

Well, it's not so much a bug, more an oversight really. As the embedded YouTube video explains below, 'Release Check' is enabled as default, which essentially turns on something called negative edge. What this means, for those of you that aren't aficionados in the fighting game space, is that when you're releasing buttons, they're being registered as an input – and that means that your kombos may not work properly.

It's easy enough to turn off: just go into the wireless controller settings and disable it. You can still pull off many of the game's manoeuvres with the feature enabled, but you'll need to slow down your inputs a little, which may be counter-intuitive in the heat of battle. We recommend switching it off for the best experience, then. You can catch the full clip below if you want to understand the problem in more detail.
