You can dive into Mortal Kombat X and have a good time without any prior practice, as the game is pretty easy to get to grips with. However, if you want to master the online mode, then you're going to need to learn some kombos – which isn't as straightforward as it should be. The inputs are easy enough, but many have complained that they're not registering properly – and this is due to a settings issue in the game.
Well, it's not so much a bug, more an oversight really. As the embedded YouTube video explains below, 'Release Check' is enabled as default, which essentially turns on something called negative edge. What this means, for those of you that aren't aficionados in the fighting game space, is that when you're releasing buttons, they're being registered as an input – and that means that your kombos may not work properly.
It's easy enough to turn off: just go into the wireless controller settings and disable it. You can still pull off many of the game's manoeuvres with the feature enabled, but you'll need to slow down your inputs a little, which may be counter-intuitive in the heat of battle. We recommend switching it off for the best experience, then. You can catch the full clip below if you want to understand the problem in more detail.

I saw that earlier today, I had no problems with combos, but sometimes special moves seemed like they didnt respond at all. Changed the settings and it is much better, at least for me.
By the way a bit off topic. Today at the premier Tower if you win the sixth battle with a flawless and a brutality you get the "keep it secret" trophy. No idea if you can do it with a fatality too.
PS: Even more off topic but I cant stop laughing with this one. http://tinyurl.com/oropqnp
@Melucine Which tower do you have to do? The daily?
@get2sammyb The premier ( weekly )
I'm gonna be trying out goro tonight, I haven't been too impressed with reptile, Cassie is a lot of fun though.
Have been struggling with them combos, il try it out tonight.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Yeah, Cassie rocks. Great addition.
I haven't entirely noticed anything, except in that I've had trouble getting Kung Lao's long combo to work. This is a pretty interesting feature and I'll have to give this a shot and see what happens.
Interesting. I'll keep this in mind when I get the game.
I tried this last night and was finally able to pull off Kung Lao's long combo. So I think this is an option that is going to be quite helpful.
