For a lot of people, Easter weekend may just be a normal weekend with a fancy name, but it's always been a good time to get stuck into some gaming. We're not really sure why this is – maybe it's all of the extra days off – but nevertheless, we've mashed our chocolatey fingers against our keyboards to bring you a lovely list of ten great games to play on your PlayStation 4. With this lot, you should be in for one heck of a fun weekend.
Bloodborne
An obvious pick since it's all anyone's talked about for the last three weeks, Bloodborne certainly isn't a family friendly release, but it's definitely a one that you can immerse yourself in – especially if you can manage to control your temper.
From Software's hideous yet beautiful gothic romp is utterly gripping thanks to its brutal difficulty, while its macabre setting is sure to ensnare even the most dismissive wannabe hunter. We recommend waiting until the evening, slipping some headphones on, and going about your bloody business until you're not even sure if you've slipped into deep, nightmare-ridden sleep. And trust us, that's more of a good time than it actually sounds.
Far Cry 4
Everyone likes putting bullets in things, preferably with a gun – and especially when they're doing it in a big open world setting. The mountainous region of Kyrat is somewhere that you can get lost in, as you hunt down ferocious animals, hijack enemy vehicles, and get pecked to death by evil birds of prey, possibly all at the same time.
One of those games where you set off with a predetermined goal only to find yourself wildly off the trail, it's easy to stumble upon crazy, dynamic situations thanks to the fact that almost everything's out to kill everything else. Go on a wildlife tour, or better yet, bring the inhabitants of a nearby jungle to a camp of hapless soldiers, all in the name of good, chaotic fun.
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition
Grab your favourite character class, map out your best abilities on your DualShock 4, and then strap yourself in, because you've got one golden ticket to loot city. Arguably one of the most addictive titles on the PS4, you simply can't go wrong with a bit of Diablo this weekend – with or without company.
Whether you're enjoying the exploration, the story, or the everlasting grind, there's always something to do as you mow down hordes of demons just to get your hands on a nice new pair of pants. Perhaps it's a good time to start over with a whole new character, or maybe you should just crank up the difficulty level and see if you've got what it takes. Whatever you decide to do, just be aware that the hours usually seem like minutes when you're knee deep in monster guts.
The Wolf Among Us - A Telltale Game Series
Looking for a character-driven story this weekend? Then you could try your luck as Bigby Wolf, Fable Town's gruff, tough-talking sheriff. A good tale from start to finish, The Wolf Among Us features loads of interesting personalities, and plenty of opportunities to leave your mark on what is an often enchanting adventure.
It's up to you whether Bigby's a good cop or a bad bobby, with your actions causing the plot to branch out as things progress. Split into five episodes, each lasting a couple of hours, there's more than enough narrative to sink your teeth into, and a copious amount of twists and turns to keep things interesting.
Helldivers
To get the most out of this one, you're going to want to bring a couple of buddies with you. Helldivers is an absolute blast alongside pals, as missions to alien infested planets go horribly wrong in the blink of an eye. When total panic ensues and allies are getting mistakenly crushed by their own orbital drops, you know that you're having a good time – especially when you can't stop laughing.
With loads of gear and upgrades to unlock as well as dozens of military ranks to climb through, your career as a Helldiver will be full of spills, thrills, and deadly mechs that look like they're made out of Weetabix boxes. Fast, decisive fun is the name of the game, perfect for a weekend packed with completely stupid chaos.
Dragon Age: Inquisition
A weekend away in Thedas will surely allow your mind and soul to drift away from the mundanity of real life. When you go back to work next week, you can tell your mates that you've been roaming about the countryside, seeking adventure, riches, and romance with pointy eared individuals – and the best part is that you did it all from the comfort of your sofa.
Inquisition's a thinking man's game, and as such, it's one that you can get heavily invested in. Its world is teeming with secrets to discover alongside your loyal band of followers, and key moral choices will have you spending every moment away from the television pondering whether or not you've buggered everything up. Role-playing at its finest.
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection
What's that? You want loot and the ability to go around shooting anything that moves? Borderlands' arrival on the PS4 might be just the thing for you, then. A bundle that includes the great Borderlands 2 and the not-as-great-but-still-quite-good Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, you could easily spend your entire weekend shooting and looting, and not necessarily in that order.
The obvious draw here is the never-ending stream of goodies that the collection throws at you, from grenade launchers to incendiary assault rifles, and homing shotguns to electrically charged peashooters. Play alone, and you're probably going to be one happy vault hunter, but play with others, and you're in for a deliciously back-stabby ride as you nick everyone else's loot while they're still holding off waves of enemies like fools.
Grand Theft Auto V
At this point, you've probably all played Grand Theft Auto V at least once, but spare a thought for Los Santos' lovely warm beaches if you're in need of a nice break this weekend. The sandbox location is full of crazy sights to see and dumb things to do, and its bustling nature keeps the setting feeling fresh.
Whether you go on a rage-filled murder spree with Trevor, or decide to enter a triathlon in order to try and give Franklin a premature heart attack, Los Santos can provide hours of stupidity for those on the lookout for some AAA action.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
Killing randomly generated orcs just never gets old, particularly when the combat's as free-flowing as it is in Monolith's addictive sandbox slice-'em-up. Talion's tale of vengeance is one best enjoyed as you get stuck right into the nitty gritty of ruining a warchief's life, preferably in the most satisfying way that you can come up with.
Charging into the fray with only your combat prowess dragging you out alive, branding a baddie's best buddies so that they turn on him during the heat of battle, or even just sitting on a rooftop and sticking a few arrows into his skull – however you decide to take down your prey, Shadow of Mordor's a great weekend pick for anyone looking to have a devilishly dynamic time.
Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn
An obvious choice for an MMO enthusiast, the realm of Eorzea is bursting with activity as we draw ever closer to the release of Final Fantasy XIV's first expansion. Easter weekend's the perfect time to jump into the shoes of your avatar, hop on the back of a chocobo, and just listen to that oh-so-sweet theme music.
Do they lay chocolate eggs? We're not sure, but this title's resurrection was one of the best things to happen to Square Enix's franchise in years. If you're lucky, you'll know a bunch of people willing to go adventuring with you, and you can all attempt to have a decidedly social weekend with the help of the Internet. After all, holidays are meant to be spent with friends – well, as long as they're not off partying with real people, the traitors that they are.
So what are your plans this weekend? Are you going to be playing any of the titles that we've mentioned, or are you going to spend some time doing that whole family thing? Stuff that last chocolate egg into your mouth, and garble gibberish in the comments section below.

I agree with this list a lot. Already got the platinum on the Wolf Among Us & Shadows of Mordor, but need to get to Far Cry 4, DA Inquisition & Bloodborne which are still sitting on my shelf. Probably going to finish the platinum on Lego Hobbit.
Gosh darn it, I thought I might be w/ the in crowd this weekend as Gamefly just shipped me Last of Us. (PS3 version, but still.) Guess you've all already played it, huh?
I almost got GTAV instead but as thats 30 hours to LoU 12 I decided to wait and purchase GTAV when I do get a PS4, I like the new gravel graphics.
Which ones have Easter eggs in it?
@rjejr Still interested to hear what you think of The Last of Us, man. Fantastic game.
@get2sammyb - I'm probably going to think it's too scary and too difficult, but I'm playing it for the story anyway, and only b/c it's Naughty Dog. Needless to say I'll be playing it on Easy. Still undecided on the gore setting, I'll probably leave it on as watching all 7 seasons of Sons of Anarchy over the past 2 months has toughened me up a bit.
I don't even consider this a holiday. But it'll be Bloodborne until I pick up my kid from his Grandpa, and then he and I will do some Helldivers.
Sorry but the PS4 is taking a back seat to the Wii U for the weekend for me, and it's all cause of a game called Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
I'm praying to every god ever invented that my wife has bought me up either final fantasy zero or Bloodbourne, ive been on a games embargo for the last 2 weeks as its nearly Easter. What are the odds I end up with something pants?
The only game this Easter Sunday is bloodborne for me. Hope everyone has a good holiday weekend.
Eorzea and Los Santos for me as always, only I'll be scoffing my face with chocolate egg whilst there.
I'd definitely recommend dragon age and wolf among us. I've just been grinding destiny so far, I've not decided what I'll be tucking into next, I've got all week off anyways.
@themcnoisy thief
It's worth noting that Rayman Legends is having a special on lums you earn via Online Challenges this weekend.
Ah shadow of mordor.. Lend it to my bro because he bought a ps4 and I was allready on my 2nd playthrough, but I do miss me killing some orcs
@Tasuki Hahaha.
I played that round a friends and was adamant I would dislike it for any reason.
Then I played it, and it gets into your head!
Great choice.
I'm really glad you added Final Fantasy XIV to the list! It really is a great choice! (Its a REALLY great game for anyone who's never tried it too.) In fact it's what I'm planning to play. I've already played a little already today even.
@rjejr
Not a fan of violent media?
@Quorthon - Well it's all violent when you think about it, but I think I have a low tolerance for torture, pain and suffering all rolled into one. Give me a lightsaber and I'll wipe out a legion of StormTroopers. And I routinely destroy 1,500 bad guys at a time in Hyrule Warriors - not sure you can get more violent than that - but realistic blood splattering stuff doesn't do it for me. I'll watch comedic bloodletting like in Reservoir Dogs (or anything by Tarantino really) and there was plenty of blood in those old poorly dubbed 70' kung fu movies (bleeding from the mouth was a prerequisite of dieing) but it all changed w/ Se7en. Visceral evisceration might be the right words.
I'm on Bloodborne and Hotline Miami 2 with a few beers this holiday. Also some Destiny levelling up a Hunter a little with a friend and Type 0 is calling to me again, too...
Ill be continuing to enjoy FF Type 0 this weekend. Its surprisingly good. Loved the XV demo aswell.
@themcnoisy Don't you mean trousers.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya I will be honest Tekken is my favorite fighting game, I like over Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Virtual Fighter you name it. However I really haven't enjoyed a Tekken game this much since Tekken 3. I was hesitant at first to play it but my friend picked it up for 5 dollars on Xbox 360 and I played it over at his place and fell in love. I got the Wii U version since it had all the DLC included from the start.
@Tasuki I meant pants as in rubbish lol. Didn't we have a conversation on Diablo the other night that you guys in the usa and the scousers in Liverpool say pants but the rest of the uk say trousers. Funny but true. I wonder how come we share the same colloquialism?
@themcnoisy Lol we did that's why I said what I said. When I read your comment I thought of that.
I haven't played anything else since I got Dragon Age...
@Tasuki Yeah I loved street fighter 2, but when Tekken came along it was my goto fighting game - But then soul calibur was even better than that! Both Tekken and sc are namco games. I always thought of Tekken as more attacking and soul calibur as more defensive but very similar all the same !! Completely missed all of the tag tournaments, shame on me.
That's a damn fine list! And the ps4 is not even 2 years old! I'd add Last of Us and Alien Isolation to list too if you fancy scary tense stories. Battlefield 4 and Destiny for FPS addicts. Fifa 15 for footie nuts. Valiant hearts, walking dead, tales of Borderlands, game of thrones for immersive stories. Man frikkin great time to be a gamer !!!!
I will be playing Dying Light. Can't seem to stop playing the damn game.
@themcnoisy yeah I always saw Soul Caliber as Tekken with weapons myself. However the only Soul game I played was Soul Caliber II.
I was going to pick up Far Cry 4...found it for $35, but ended up picking up Skylanders Trap Team for the same price. I'm curious about Far Cry 4 as I've never played any others in the series. Can anyone tell me about it?
@JLPick Typical Ubisoft AAA in my opinion, stale, repetitive and trying too hard. Maybe I'm being unfair, I did get get nearly 90% completion including all collectables but I started feeling a little ill at that point. It's not bad but, on paper while it sounds great, it just managed to end up being a little souless and uninteresting. I gues I'd ultimately recommend it as I got 20-25 hours out of it, but at the end of the day their are currently better games out for PS4 that should be played first.
I'll be playing Resident Evil Revelations 2. Finally really digging into the Raid mode, which thankfully is as addictive as it was in the first Revelations. Maybe even more so.
@kyleforrester87 I have about 29 games on PS4 right now (retail), just looking to pick it up as it was a cheaper game...rarely do I pay the 60 for one, but would for Bloodborne if a demo came out for it first. Should I just wait for Far Cry 4 to go down even lower then...I'm not a first-person player, but it looked fun in Gameinformer...was just a little curious. I did end up picking up the Skylanders game for my kids and Murdered Soul Suspect for myself...murdered's not too bad of a game.
@JLPick it's certainly not a bad game, I'd probably rather take Dying Light over it though personally. To be honest the general opinion is its a great game so don't let this guys opinion put you off
just my opinion of "scoffs" the amazing last of us...YAWN YAWN YAWN
@ironcrow86 I agree to a point. Cleared it on PS3 and really glad I experianced it, got it on PS4 and cleared it again but its an (intentially) miserable experiance and I've no real desire to play through a third time. But everyone should do it once!
I'll be digging into Shadow of Mordor since I just picked it up Friday. I'm hoping to get Bloodborne and Dying Light next week for my birthday. Of course, there's always Geometry Wars 3, with a new update to boot.
