Push Rewind

The big Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week marked the start of the busy conventions season – and, sadly, we won't get a breather until PlayStation Experience is over in December. Still, this does mean that there's lots of exciting news ahead, and Sony kicked things off with new Project Morpheus details. The highlight of the week probably arrived on Friday night, though, when PlayStation 4 firmware update v2.50 leaked.

Helldivers - 8/10

With friends, Helldivers provides a brilliant and addictive co-op experience full of thrills, spills, and hilarious accidental deaths. Gameplay is quick, satisfying, and often chaotic, and the stratagem system gives the action a unique identity. The only question mark here is the one that hangs over the title's community, which must be sustained if the shooter is to realise its impressive potential.

Zombie Army Trilogy - 6/10

Zombie Army Trilogy is an enjoyable co-operative shooter that's a lot of fun when played with others. Unfortunately, it runs out of steam all too quickly, giving you a severe dose of déjà-vu once you realise that you're playing very similar encounters, with only the backdrop changing. As a result, you'll have had enough of shooting zombies in the noggin well before you reach the end of its campaign, and while you'll look back fondly on the early hours that you spent with this title, you'll wonder if it was really worth bringing it back from the dead on the PS4.

Talking Point: Is This the End for the PlayStation 3

In just over eight months' time, the PlayStation 3 will turn nine. Sony's always made a point of stressing that it will support its home consoles for at least ten years apiece, and it's not going to break that promise with its previous generation behemoth. But with publishers starting to focus solely on new formats like the PlayStation 4, is the ageing appliance nearing the end of its long and prosperous life? We bashed heads with editors Sammy Barker and Robert Ramsey to see what the future holds for the Japanese giant's elderly device.

Reaction: Project Morpheus Seems Impressive, But Also a Hard Sell

After a year of token statements without much substance, we suppose that it made sense for Sony to return to the scene of its virtual reality reveal with new information about Project Morpheus. Speaking as part of a private press conference at the Game Developers Conference this week, the Japanese giant announced that its ambitious PlayStation 4 headset has been overhauled, and now boasts a better screen, less latency, and even more lights peppered around its exterior.

Virtual Reality on PS4 Just Got Way Better with Project Morpheus' Latest Prototype

It's only been a year since Sony announced Project Morpheus, but at the time, we were impressed with the way that the Japanese giant muscled into the virtual reality space, seemingly nudging Oculus aside. Since then, the latter company has been acquired by Facebook, fierce competitor Microsoft has announced a different approach with HoloLens, and Valve has revealed its own wearable tech. Suddenly, the PlayStation maker looks like the underdog again.

Crikey! PS4 Has Now Sold 20.2 Million Units Worldwide

Another month, another stunning PlayStation 4 milestone. Sony has announced that its current flagship format has now sold 20.2 million units globally, which is accurate as of 1st March. The platform holder last provided an update in early January, when it announced that it had sold 18.5 million units as of 4th January. Considering that these are typically the slowest months of the year, that's a phenomenal increase.
