Uncharted 4 PS4 PlayStation 4

Frank Tzeng may not be a name that you immediately recognise, but he's one of the people helping to make Uncharted 4: A Thief's End look so darn good. A lead character artist at Naughty Dog, the masterful modeller has worked on dozens of other PlayStation games, including Killzone: Shadow Fall and Puppeteer. However, he believes that Nathan Drake is a step ahead of everything else.

"This character can easily be a digital double in a film," he told CG Master Academy as part of a wide-reaching interview. "Based on the quality, the detail, the blend shape, the colour, everything that we put on the character, this is basically a film character to me. So to me, videos games are getting really close to film quality, and this is exactly what I wanted to do."

According to Tzeng, the PlayStation 4's allowing it to achieve way more than it ever could before. "Making more expressions; making more blend shapes and wrinkle maps," he continued. "All of this is getting us one step closer to the film quality that we wanted for the game industry, and I think that in a few years we can definitely get there."

Interestingly, the veteran employee lists a second "unannounced" project on his Linked In portfolio, which is likely to be The Last of Us 2. Considering that the jump from Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was massive, we can't wait to see what Naughty Dog is able to achieve a few years into the PS4's lifespan. Mind melting stuff awaits, we're sure.
