"I could buy 58 copies of Truck Racer"

There's a brilliant little application on the BBC website which allows you to track just how much professional footballers (of the non-American variety) earn. This author thought that it would be fun to see how much Manchester United and England player Wayne Rooney earns during the time that it takes to publish a weekly edition of WAYP. We'll put the results at the bottom.

I bought seminal PlayStation 3 title Truck Racer a while back as a bit of a joke, so I figured that I should probably actually see what the Big Rig-'em-up is all about. Unsurprisingly, it's not as exciting as its name would lead you to believe; the titular lorries handle like bars of soap and they sound like Dyson vacuum cleaners minutes before they break. Still, at least it only cost £20.

What's that sound? Oh, it's just another Warriors game fast approaching its release date. Koei's bread and butter franchise tends to squeeze out a new title in what feels like every three weeks, and that means that I'll be absolutely hammering the superb Samurai Warriors 4 this weekend in a bid to grab 100 per cent completion. The problem, though, is that uniting feudal Japan takes a lot more effort than you'd think.

"What does Far Cry even mean?" I ponder to myself as I ping an arrow into a man's face. "I mean, sure, there are lots of 'cries', but are their screams really relevant to their position to me – near or far?" I continue to think about this as I slaughter a family of endangered tigers and skin them to craft a larger wallet. "Perhaps it says a lot about the human condition," I say as I throw a Molotov cocktail at an elephant. "Is it my enemies that cry, or is it myself?"

Jumping into a buzzer and dropping grenades on civilian settlements, my quest for knowledge continues. "Could it be that it's my psyche that's crying? Could it be a profound statement about the player's moral sensibilities?" Suddenly distraught at this realisation, I leap from my one man helicopter with suicidal intentions, but spot a broken down car at the side of the road. Safely parachuting down, I throw a grenade at the driver's feet and walk away. "Haha, your car's crap, mate." [Feel better now, Ben? – Ed]

Now that my friends have finally picked up PlayStation 4s of their own, I can finally experience Destiny how it's supposed to be played. As I'm at the point of starting to gear farm, I can kiss my weekend goodbye.

I've been neglecting NHL 15 of late because of how fun Apotheon is, but I think that it's time for a return to the rink. I'll also dig into some more Grim Fandango if there's time – and let's face it, there's always time for Grim Fandango.

Following December's PlayStation Experience keynote, I have Need for Speed: Most Wanted available on my Vita, which was free from EA to celebrate PlayStation's 20th Anniversary. I've been a fan of Criterion Games' racing mechanics since the original Burnout – especially the way that it encourages risky driving techniques that often leave the player teetering on the edge of a crushing collision.

After attending one of Trip Lee's [Who? – Ed] exhilarating rap concerts last night in my home state, with my ears still ringing and chest shaken up by the ground-shaking bass, I sadly must study for the rest of the weekend. But I plan to alleviate this boredom with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Apotheon. By the way, anyone in the comments want to give their opinion on the latter? Just curious what you all think of that game. Looks stunning!

Shame on me for judging Apotheon. At first it looked like a bland, low-budget indie with nothing more than a unique presentation, but now I'm realising that Alien Trap's Metroidvania-style platformer is pretty amazing. It doesn't hurt that it's free, either.

Alright, the article's been completed, and in the time between making the first keystroke in the headline to pushing the publish button, Wazza's earned £1,175.19 ($1,790.23). The article took about 30 minutes to complete. On that depressing note, let us know what you're playing this weekend in the comments section below.
