The rose gold PlayStation 4 sold in Dubai last year has serious competition for the coveted 'Most Expensive Console in History' accolade, as Sony's just auctioned off an Anniversary Edition PS4 for – wait for it – $128,000. You may remember the firm selling 12,300 of these through various channels last year. Well, this was number '00001'.
The unit was sold on Yahoo in Japan, and received a whopping 1,585 bids before settling at ¥15.135 million. The platform holder said that it would be contacting the winner immediately, and would be donating the proceeds to charity, alongside a matching gift from the company. That means that, should all things work out, it'll be writing a cheque for $250,000 to its chosen cause.
"We appreciate all who participated in the auction and are surprised at the highest bid price, which was higher than our expectations," a shocked spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal. How much would you pay for a limited edition device like this? Raid your piggy bank in the comments section below.

That's not a lot, if they'd just plonked it on the market and donated 20% of net profit for the first 20 days of sales... I rest my case.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Fair point.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi They didn't create this anniversary edition to try and raise as much money for charity as possible. If that was their goal then there are many better ways. This is simply an auction for this 00001 unit.
Yeah it's not a lot of cash for Sony, but it is for one person regardless of their net worth. At least they're both trying to help people.
@eLarkos but they made 12500 of which lots ended up on eBay ripping people off, Sony isn't doing anything for charity, the bidder is and, Sony gets the fuzzy warm publicity. To me, it stinks.
