After a disappointing delay last year, British studio Slightly Mad Studios has rallied – and Project CARS is looking like a real contender for the PlayStation 4's racing crown. While the excellent DriveClub currently occupies that spot, the Bandai Namco published release will offer your first taste of simulation action on Sony's next-gen machine – and will likely occupy that slot exclusively until Gran Turismo 7 eventually pops up.
This video shot by Team VVV offers a good look at the game's various vehicles and tracks, as it cycles through different weather and lighting effects. The sense of speed is fantastic, aided by the title's silky smooth 60 frames-per-second refresh rate – but we reckon that the visuals look nice and glossy as well in 1080p. Is this a release that you're itching for, or can you hold off until Polyphony Digital struts its stuff? Floor it in the comments section below.

Looks nice.
1st person looks like it has the usual limited field of view for the road cars though. I hope this is adjustable (I'd like to be able to adjust how close to the windscreen I am rather than choose between the usual options of "seat pushed right back", "face pressed against the windscreen" or "sitting on the bonnet" options). I normally end up driving 3rd person as a result since none of these seem to adequately mimic the actual visual experience of driving a car. But then maybe I'll have to wait for VR to solve this one...
I suppose the big question for Project Cars (at least on PS4) is how it stacks up against Driveclub.
A bit off topic but I see they're releasing this in the US 3 days before Europe. While I appreciate the time this gives me to check out the reviews before parting with my hard earned cash for the game should us Europeans not be a bit ticked off by this double standard?
How does this game achieved 60fps and Drive Club couldn't? This is a multi platform title, may I remind you. Smh...
I think it's going to struggle on both consoles, especially PS4 but not so much because of existing games in the genre, more so because there's a lot of anticipated games around the same time. It seems like it'll be a great racing though, maybe a worthy pick up along with the Borderlands Collection.
@RawWilson1 Simple answer: environmental detail.
Cars looks great, but there's a massive amount of stuff going on in the environment in Driveclub. It's not a detracting part of it, and 30fps is fine for what DC is- Cars may have arcadey options, but it's a car sim at heart. So 60fps is appropriate vs environmental flourish.
Also, I've no love of driving sims. Driveclub suits me fine.
One of many PS4 games I plan to get this year! Looks like this will fill my Forza void nicely...
I'm not really into racing games but this looks like a game I'd pick up and have a go!
@Pipr This is the case for almost every game. New releases come out on Tuesday in North America, but are usually held until Friday in the UK. It's just the way it's always been - presumably due to the way shipments work or whatever. I'm not really sure.
Racing games are my preferred genre and this looks like it's shaping up nicely. Hopefully they get the feeling and handling of the cars right as everything else is looking good so far.
Looks awesome.im a massive fan of driveclub and racing games alike so this will be a must for me.not sure if the weather effects arr in driveclubs league but from what iv seen this looks more sim orientated rather than dtiveclubs arcadey feel so that will be nice. But i know when gt gets released non of these games will get a look in lol.
I finally took the plunge and pre odered a month ago.
i have this pre-ordered
I'd definitely like to give this a try. I just hope it doesn't fall to the woes recent racing titles have.
I can't wait for this but is there any solid car list that anyone knows about ? Surprisingly there's quite a few of the cars I like that I haven't really seen in the trailers... regardless this looks sweet and all the lighting a weather looks superb.
Might have to get it, looks great
