Game of the Year Reader's Picks

Sign it, seal it, and stick our stamp of approval on it: Game of the Year is finally over. We've spent the past few days polling your opinion on the best that PlayStation had to offer in 2014, and while there's been much anger pointed at the absence of DriveClub and Assassin's Creed Unity in our shortlist – we couldn't include those titles on principle, folks – you've come up with a similar selection of software to us. Perhaps we're not so insane, after all?

Incredibly, almost 200 of you turned up to vote, and your picks were cast across over 25 different titles. Heck, even Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn got the nod from someone, which is sure to make associate editor Robert Ramsey feel all warm and fuzzy when he breaks away from Diablo III's iron grip and gives this article a read. Without further ado, then, let's put a big fat period at the end of this obligatory preamble, and recap your top four PlayStation titles from the previous year.

Bronze Trophy: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Lord of the ring

Our overall winner was only good enough to score the Bronze Trophy in your poll, but Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor still fared well with a strong seven per cent of the overall votes. Packing brutally entertaining combat that would make even the Dark Knight beam, alongside the innovative Nemesis System, Monolith Productions' Tolkien tie-in is understandably lapping up the 2014 plaudits right now.

Silver Trophy: Destiny

Guardian of the galaxy

What? While we controversially plumped up for Hideo Kojima's it's-a-demo-not-a-game survival horror scare-a-thon P.T. in our Silver Trophy slot, 10 per cent of you reckoned that Bungie's intergalactic escapade Destiny was the best that PlayStation had to offer in 2014. With slick shooting and some of the most stunning scenery this side of the Milky Way, there's a definite case to be made – not that we necessarily agree.

Gold Trophy: inFAMOUS: Second Son

Punk power

It would appear that we can all agree on one thing, though: Sucker Punch's supercharged pseudo-sequel inFAMOUS: Second Son was a sublime sandbox effort. Scooping up a very respectable 14 per cent of the votes, Delsin Rowe's inaugural adventure fetched the Gold Trophy in your poll – which is exactly where it finished in our staff vote as well. We guess that we can say with authority now that this Seattle set outing was very much in bloom.

Platinum Trophy: Dragon Age: Inquisition

Super scale

It was our Bronze Trophy pick, but Dragon Age: Inquisition is your Game of the Year. Running away with almost 20 per cent of your votes, BioWare's we're-not-rubbish-really role-playing release plotted a real return to form for the company. Boasting a rich world oozing with oodles of interesting personalities, this sequel's success discredits a long-running office theory: that Señor Ramsey is the only person that cares about this property.

That's us done and dusted for 2014, but we'll be back bright and early on Monday, 5th January with renewed energy to walk you through the next 12 months on Planet PlayStation. Look, we even got a new logo to celebrate the New Year – it's going to be fun!
