Just when you thought that Who Would Win Wednesdays was done and dusted, we've brought it back to help celebrate the PSone's 20th anniversary. Sony's first console was home to many a mascot, but picking today's combatants was fairly easy. It's a match-up that we've always wanted to see, and a rivalry that broke hearts by not featuring in crossover brawler PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. It's time to fight fire with fur – it's time for the illustrious return of the PSone's most revered heroes.

Spin, jump, spin, jump, body slam, spin, bazooka. Thrusting motion. Remembered fondly by many as the PlayStation brand's first true mascot, Crash Bandicoot is an iconic character despite his modern misfortunes. The marsupial's initial trilogy of titles saw him take down a menagerie of mutants and thwart the plans of scheming scientists, before he went on to headline his very own racing game, and try his hand at some of the most ridiculous sporting activities that you can imagine. Naughty Dog's original cheeky chap has charisma, dance moves, and a catalogue of dumb-looking special attacks, but it's his hardiness that makes him a most formidable foe. He's been squashed, turned to dust, and stung to death by bees in the most hilarious fashion, but he's always back for more. Let's hope that he can make a return to glory soon, shall we?

Saviour of dragonkind and master of quips, Spyro the Dragon was one of the PSone's most iconic characters. Searing the buttocks of enemies at least twice his size, Spyro knows no fear as he charges head first into one foe after another, sending them spiralling to their doom. And, while his little wings can't quite support his weight, his ability to glide is impressive to say the least. Unfortunately, time hasn't been too kind to our favourite purple reptile who now looks like a grotesque, mutated version of his former self, but at least we can look back on his original outings with joyous tears in our eyes. His legacy is a proud one, in which he's conquered opponents of all shapes and sizes to rescue his race from certain doom. The message here is to never underestimate this plucky little dragon.

We know that this one's going to result in more than a few arguments, but on this day of celebration, let's not forget why we're all here: to find happiness in imagining iconic mascots brutally maiming each other.
