PS4 Most Anticipated 2015 1

We love navel gazing as much as the next person here at Push Square Towers, which is why we've compiled seven features on our favourite 2014 PlayStation forays. However, in an industry that's constantly moving forwards, it's hard not to look ahead as well. That's why we've pulled our team together one last time to discuss our most anticipated PlayStation 4 releases of 2015. One of the rules here is that the games had to be officially announced, as we didn't want to end up in fantasy land. With that in mind, here's what we're most looking forward to next year.

The more I think about it, the more I realise that 2014 was a bitterly disappointing year for me. I've enjoyed replaying Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us Remastered, and I loved inFAMOUS: Second Son more than most, but there hasn't really been anything that's made me wild. I'm hoping that will change in 2015, as there are a lot more titles up my alley. Indeed, the jury may still be out on The Order: 1886 and Until Dawn, but they're both looking like my cup of tea. The latter scare-a-thon in particular is almost guaranteed to attain mixed reviews, but everything I've seen of the schlocky survival horror has had me in fits of laughter. For that reason, I can say with some certainty that Supermassive Games' angsty adventure is, bizarrely, my most anticipated title right now.

An RPG would be an easy pick for me – the likes of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Persona 5 are right up there on my wishlist – but instead, I'm going to be outlandish and say that my most anticipated game of 2015 is currently Dragon Ball Xenoverse. Being a huge fan of the source material, I've been waiting years for a title that rivals the still-brilliant Budokai 3, and Xenoverse looks like it might actually come close. What's more, it's out in just a couple of months, so if Goku's latest turns out to be a dud – Kami forbid – then there's still plenty to look forward to next year.

There are so many things to look forward to in 2015, but standing slightly taller than the rest, albeit because of his pointy ears, is Batman: Arkham Knight. I was lucky enough to see a gameplay demo at this year's EGX, and the overenthusiastic presenter was right: you absolutely do feel like the goddamn Batman. Finally getting the opportunity to swoop around Gotham itself will be an awesome sight, and as it's built from the ground up for the PS4, it's going to be even more sight-ier than our stupid non-Batman eyes can possibly imagine. I've even got my ridiculous Special Edition on lock – not the one with the Batmobile statue, that's insanity, but nothing says 'Hey, this guy's pretty cool' like having a 12" Batman figure on your bedside table. Hello ladies.

2015 is shaping up to be a pretty exciting year, with all manner of thrilling games set to release. In terms of what I'm excited for, the obvious answer is Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, but I'd be lying if I said that that was my most anticipated title. In truth, that spot is currently being hogged by No Man's Sky, a space sim with stunning vistas, an impossibly large map, and a clear creative vision which looks as if it's being designed specifically for me. Some people have expressed concerns that the gameplay mightn't live up to this gorgeous outer shell, but to be honest, I'm not too concerned. I'd be happy to just explore that world, and admire the scenery.

I've never been one for looking too far into the future, so I'm not surprised to find the title that I'm most excited about in 2015 is little more than a month away. Dying Light is a mix of two of my favourite games from the last generation – Dead Island and Mirror's Edge – so I'm very excited to be able to parkour my way through a zombie outbreak. I just hope that it's the good part of Techland on development duties, as I'd be really disappointed if it turns out to be a stinker like Call of Juarez: The Cartel.

There are almost too many games coming out next year to pick one, but because I've been asked to, I'll say that my most anticipated title is SOMA. Frictional Games is great at making incredible horror experiences, and the brief glimpses of this title that I've seen so far have been more than enough to get me extremely excited for the forthcoming release. The underwater environments and alleged psychological nature of the scares – as opposed to jump scares – have me more excited for a game than I've been since Alien: Isolation.

Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham games were the highlights of last generation, so Batman: Arkham Knight is my most hotly anticipated game of 2015. The core gameplay of brawling, detective vision, and using the grapple gun to slingshot into city traversal have established solid mechanics to build upon. The same applies to the Metroidvania approach of drip-feeding new gadgets and skills. The June 2015 delay will hopefully allow Rocksteady time to apply a next-gen sheen to its fantastic gothic art style, and ensure that Arkham Knight is technically tight on the PS4. I'm also excited for the inclusion of the Batmobile, because Batman's iconic roadster has been a memorable addition throughout the history of Batman games. I still remember gamers buzzing from the scaling road sections in Batman Returns on Mega-CD.

A long time ago during a childhood far, far away, I played Star Wars: Battlefront 2 for hours on end. I would do countless Galactic Conquests as the strategising commandeer of a fleet, while getting down in the grit of the action, having some of the most memorable moments playing as iconic Star Wars characters and carrying my whole team to victory. I replayed the campaign many times for its fascinating perspective on the Clone Wars, loved the epic space battles when I raided enemy ships and destroyed them from the inside, and much more. I never even had the opportunity to touch the online multiplayer, so with a modern, fresh take on the franchise by the team at DICE, the masters of grand, eye-popping multiplayer shooters, I couldn't be more ecstatic and hyped for the hopefully triumphant return of Star Wars: Battlefront in late 2015.

2015 holds many games that I'm eagerly awaiting for the PS4, with the frontrunner being Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. This title's gameplay presentation was simply stunning when showcased during the PlayStation Experience event, and once again shows Naughty Dog's dedication to wowing PlayStation fans with unprecedented visuals and gameplay mechanics. Seeing hero Nathan Drake traversing a lush jungle environment with highly realistic detail was jaw-dropping. Even the combat seems much more up-close and personal, in a way that's reminiscent of the brutal and believable action in The Last of Us. Oh, and Drake with a rope – well, that just has badass written all over it, and will certainly add plenty of variety. Not only am I stoked to get heavily engaged in the story, but I'm also very excited to see how the multiplayer will fare. There's no question that I'm eagerly counting the days until the game's release.
